Growth above my grow light

My plant has grown past my reflector. What do I do when the main cola is growing past my lamp?

The plant has just begun flowering and it's 60% Sativa/40% indica. But I grew a 100% sativa last grow and it wasn't this tall. A double edged sword, at least my new nutrient regime is working well.

So what do you do when your plant has grown over your reflector?
It's taller than I am and I'm 5'7".

I try to plan for 3x's stretch on most hybrids and flip early enough to prevent that. If I notice one will not cooperate and wants to be super tall, I'll supercrop that branch. Supercropping should be done in Veg or SUPER early in flower. Done right it'll increase the growth of everything above the supercropped point too.

One of the two plants I grow will happily crash into my 8 foot ceiling. I've had buds spend their entire existence above the reflector. Turned out OK, but not optimal. You can try pulling it down with string and you'll probably need to stake it for strength and resistance.

Doing a scrog with it now - much better way to go. More bud sites per plant and even lighting to them all.

Since you're already in flower, knowing how to keep it from happening won't help. What you need to do is 'break' the stalk about 1 1/2' from the bottom of the reflector height. Depending on the weight of your cola, you may need to stake the broken part of the stalk. Within 1 day, the cola will start pointing back up. I do have to do this occasionally depending on the strain.

Thanks people. This is the first time this has happened to me. I can usually tell when one of my girls is going to push the limits of my growing environment.

I've got to do something because I have people that visit me on a regular basis.

I have a bad habit of letting plants get too large. The top is arranged to go alongside the reflector. I have tried in the past to put a small light up just for the protruding top but it never helped.

The top cola is not all that much smaller for not getting any light at the end, the direct light benefits are less than parts of the plant with larger leaves.

Right now there is a 6'7" plant with the top almost 4" above the top of the light. The plant gets turned every watering and has lighting on three sides as well as two overhead lights. All the areas have a minimum of 30% of the total wattage coming in from the sides, this is another reason the cola growing past the top light has less effect. The plant gets adequate energy and spreads it around.

Never thought of LST to bring the top down, that is just me, gotta do things the hard way.

Phaeton- I'm very happy that the plant is enormous but it's now pushing into the ceiling. It's in a room with a short ceiling. I broke the stem near the top when I lost sight of it while moving the plant.

I won't repeat this again. I've got to find a higher ceiling.

I fixed the problem with my reflector. I moved it to another room with a ceiling a foot higher. But it's now visible upon entry into my abode. At least the HPS light can be seen blasting out of my kitchen like the sun! Whatever! This is why I never answer my door.

Careful, that hps color blasting out your window is like a bill board saying "there is bud growing here" for cops and robbers. Something to think about

Oh, yeah, I'm too familiar with the law here. The police station used to be directly in my line of sight. They noticed my lights and waited until the Fire Dept. was in my building and they kicked my door in.

I was Maine when ********** county detectives started calling me asking me to turn myself in. The rest sucked bad.
