Hello,
I"ve had a thought for a while now. What about growing upside down?

as in placing light souce on the ground..and plant in the air? and then making it go over an edge..and grow DIRECTLY DOWN...this way it dont have to work to get nutrients from teh roots...to...the....BUDS!!!!...

What does everybody else think about this idea?

this has been posted b4 and makinh a plant hang upside down doesnt make it easier for it to get nutrients. it doesnt pull the nutrients up by some type of metabolism it occurs via ossmosis. there may be reason for this to save space but i very much doubt it will result increased yeild or vigor.

As far as increased vigor, I believe jojajico is correct that it wouldn't have any benefit.

The concept would however be great for horizontal grows. It would make getting to the pot for watering easier. The heat would rise, potentially making cooling easier.

what about gravity? What about hormone translocation? What about phototropism? There are alot of variables that change when growing upside down...

Gravity...plants grown rightside up have to hold themselves errect and are constantly fighting against gravity. Plants grown inverted don't have the same support problems that upright plants have....The buds can hang out without falling over. Why do hydro plants grow faster than soil plants? Because the roots don't have to go out in search for food...the food is brought to them. So hydro plants grow faster and yield more because the plants can spend all of there energy growing, not searching for food. Couldn't this same theory hold true for growing upside down? I mean if the plants aren't spending energy just holding themselves upright...they could spend the extra energy growing and producing big fat buds...

What about the roots? They grow down in soil...but how do they know which way is down? Gravity? This could effect rootmass and yield.

Plants have hormones just like we do. hormones signal plant functions similiar to the way hormones signal physiological functions within our bodies. Different hormones are located in different areas of the plants...some hormones hang out in the growth tips etc...this could be effected by turning a plant upside down...

There are alot of interesting points that should be considered...
