Growing Up

Hello all. I just upgraded from a 252W CFL rubbermaid to a 400W HPS cooltube cab. Wow, the HPS is bright! I have some bagseed plants in there right now, but the reason I am starting a thread in the 'Grow Diaries' is because I will be growing out my first good genetics! They were gifted to me from a great guy, whom also inspired me to go HPS. Thank you.

Hopefully I'll be smoking some Armed Widow in about 4 months.

I plan to germinate 10 of the 20 seeds I have. Out of those 10, the best male will stay to pollinate the best female (so I can have a stock of these seeds). The rest of the males will be culled. When it's time to start some new seeds for a perpetual harvest, the other 10 will go in, in which the best female will be chosen as a mother.

This is what I started with:

From the fact that the photo was taken on the 7th of april, I guess you have modded that by now?
Personally, I'd tear the top half of the back panel off. Drill a hole in the roof. Leave the doors open, and hang mylar across the open doors. Run the chain for the light through the drilled hole and over the front edge of the roof to get it central. Lets see what you did.
I just noticed that the last photo was taken today. Does that mean that you have a 400w in there with the doors closed and cant see any light coming out of it? Your way is far more stealth than mine lol.

GMT - Hiya! I'm ready for a rematch in chess :dueling:

Yes, the cab is almost completely modified. My stoned ass got white weather stripping at the store instead of black. The light bleeds through a little. It is of no major concern though, since the Stanley makes quite a bit of wind noise, I won't be letting anyone near the cab. Lights come on in a few hours, will be posting pix of the interior then, and the bagseed I'm currently running.

On to the Armed Widow. Begin germination today 04/17/07.

10 AW seeds using the paper towel method.

HI

Fold it a few times, put it in the bowl, and rewet.

Put another bowl on top, and let it sit. Wait.

These photos were taken yesterday, but IC was down and I couldn't post.

What is this spot?

Necrosis at the bottom? Cause - overwatering?

Some more pix...

very nice these cabs are great for growing in my stanely i have suspended with rope in the air hanging outside of cab on clothes rod :), i would suggest maybe some foam like for couch cissions or the like under the stanely. this should help in the virbration noise your hearing now mine has very little i hear more air noise then the fan. my blower fan for my scrubber is another story i need a rubbermat or gasket to mount it onto the cab for virbration. my scrubber fan noise is herd in the main bathroom lol, looks like your using the devider in the cab i also tried this but was hard to control temps so i removed it. lined the inside most of the way with mylar and bam went to town. now i run a air cooled hood draws air from outside of cab through hood and exhausted into attick my scrubber is vented into wall and hallway closet. yes a smell the carbon by the closet lol has a certin clean smell lol. my passive not forced fresh air intake is on bottom 1 side of cab my scrubber is hung all way to other side of cab very top. oh yea i also removed the upper shelf so now my max height from cabs floor to bottom of hood is 48 inchs, removing the center devider and top shelf allows for a better placement of your cooltube and not restrict the airflow through it like now. unless you have to keep everything inside i would strongly suggest that your plants will love ya for it. this here

could be a few things from natural to fert or bad PH in water.
natural would be because it's the very bottom leaves of the plant how old is the plant

ferts have you feed the plants ??? could be begining of fert burn maybe was the leaves wet during lights on that will also cause a simular effect. sometime lower leaves get wet then the hps lighting burns them some.

bad PH whats the waters PH when watering them ive found 6.0-6.5 to be a good window for soil. i like 6.5 during veg and most of flower droping to 6.3 last few wks of flower.

i noticed above you think maybe overwatering might be a culprit, i use the lift method to tell when i must water again. when i 1st water a plant in it's container i water just untill it drains and stop. after it's stopped draining i lift this is my plants approx full weight after watered, every day i lift when it feels light i water again you'll notice the moisture level drop. i alternate my fert feedings meaning 1 regular watering 1 with ferts this is so hopefully salts from the ferts wont build up in rootzone during the grow.

Major,

For now, everything must be kept inside the cab (stealth). One day I know I'll take everything out for the extra room. Today, I had someone right beside the cab. I had a humidifier in the open running, covered fan noise perfectly. Person had no clue.

That plant is probably 3-4 weeks (I haven't been keeping up, but I will now) from seed. Straight into 12/12.

I have been feeding Miracle Grow Bloom Booster and molasses. I do not have a PH meter, but I need to get one.

Every now and again, I'll mist the plants.

Thank you for stopping by Maj. It is an honor to have you here. :joint:

Hey mate, I like the set up, how are the seeds germinating? doing well I hope.

Just a question, what happened to that plant (the not so pretty one? Just on my first grow I gave one of my blueberries too much superthrive and it crinkled the leaves like that lol. I still managed to get some good bud from it though.

keep up the good work mate, I'll be watching those widow :D

 Sammet,

Nice to have you around. I checked the AW seeds today (even though I probably shouldn't have) and I noticed about 4 seeds have popped the shell. I do not believe they were developed enough, so I wrapped them back up.

The NSP (Not So Pretty) plant above, is a clone I grew straight from 12/12. During the stretch, I tied it over to one side to try and increase yield. This plant had a major battle with fungus gnats, and a bit of a drought at one time. It has been under CFL's since 'birth', but after being under the HPS for these past 3 days or so, it is really improving. I'm hoping for the best.

I'm excited about the widow :pimp3:

Hello all,

Time for a quick update to show how the new HPS is doing.

8 of the 10 AW seeds popped. Went into 4" pots, and sat outside for the free light. Soil is MG Organic, vermiculite, perlite, blood meal and bone meal.
