Growing trees after growing SOG

hey there,

Ive only done a SOG type grow, around 1 plant per sq. ft. or less. plant numbers are 63 in flower in a small room... with clones and moms I can near 200... a judge will not like that 1 bit

specific questions are for growing in Pro- mix wit bottled synth. nutes

1 - how many plants under a 1000w and a 600w hPS?

2 - what size pots? big ass tubs?

3 - how long for veg time?

feels like I will defiantly loose some flower space as I would need more veg room...

but yields could go up per run, less runs per year though... but less heat on me and less times packing garbage out and soil bales in my town home.

opinions on SOG vs. trees in tents is much appreciated

In my garden using pro-mix, and what seems to be working for me (disclaimer LoL)
10 plants under a 1k
6 plants under the 600
Try to be as close to 100 watts per plant as u can. (Give or take just a few of course)
About ten days before flip to flower im in a 9" or 10" SQUARE pot. With square is alit łess wasted space and u can easily water one row at a time and not have one get missed, also ez to run shop vac hose dosn between to keep debree out and drains clear, im a clean freak whdn it comes to my grow...
Veg to about 30 days, roughly 18-24" tall with a chopped top or two before u get em that tall.

I like a bit fewer plants than J-zee per light. No trees. Very innefficient unless you're going vertical. I veg with heavy feed, light, CO2. I top and pinch till I get the number of growing tips [bud sites] I want. Probably 4 plants per 600, 6 per 1000. Approx 3 or 4 tips per sq ft. When I do the last top, a week later I flip to 12/12. I use bamboo stakes where needed. I keep the plants as short as I can till flip.

Anything lower than 3 feet below the tip on a 1000, or 2.5 ft for a 600, will be larf. Why bother.

1. How many plants is up to you, but in the picture below I have 28 plants under 8kw. Its a balance of plants/light and veg time.

2. I personally use 7 gallon smart pots, but would like to eventually move to beds, the more root space the better. you also want to let the rootmass fill in whatever size container you use, that way you can water frequently and not have to worry about the soil going anaerobic


3. I have a friend do my veg, we use fluorescents, 2400 watts worth, they get 4 weeks under those, then about a week under the 8kw in the flower room before flip. If he ran higher wattage for veg, we would cut that down, which is what we plan to do.


My last run, which was far from ideal yielded 1.8#/1kw but the current run should be at or above 2#/1kw

No trees is correct as grainger said, that hid light can only go so deep.

If ur going to be concerned with plant #s then you should do some research and find out that exactly the #s are for ur area.. Where I live.. Under 3 is a civil ticket... 11 is a felony (1-3) and over 32 is (3-5)...
Once u figure out ur optimal plant count, u can then better plan veg time n pot sizes.. I like running in 3-5 gal coco.. 4 per 600 w.. 6 per 1000.. 2-3 weeks veg under hid
