Growing to accomodate lifestyle

I am currently doing my first grow. Its from seed and is now in flower. The grow will finish in about 2-3 months which puts me right into the summer months. I won't be able to monitor my plants daily due to vacations, etc, so I am assuming my best bet would be to not grow anything until the fall.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Chances are, if I wait until the fall, I will be running a bit light on weed and will want to remedy that ASAP. I was thinking of doing an auto strain to get a quicker harvest, and then do another seed grow.

Does that sound reasonable?

I would love to be able to grow from clones, but I only have one grow environment, and I have not found a way to preserve cuttings in stasis for extended periods of time. This either relegates me to buying seed or trying to get my plants to produces feminized seeds on their own and storing the seeds, when I find a strain/plant I like.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks!

I should clarify the first portion of my post. My current plant will finish just fine. I am referring to my next grow

I guess the first question I would have is how long of vacations are you talking? Weekend get-aways or week long excursions? Being away for 3-4 days at a time is manageable (imo) for a plant. Anything longer and you risk not catching issues until well after it is too late. Others might have better info though. :)

Typically, longest is about 5 days. Since I grow in soil, the biggest issue is watering. Other than that its a weekend here or there

i used to go away for a week without any real issues.....and i had a few grows... consider self watering setups.....

If you order autoflower seeds now & plant them asap, they'll be ready Aug 1 or so, maybe sooner. They should do extremely well in 3 gal pots, which lengthens watering intervals, and the 2 varieties I've grown have been as tough as nails. Samsara Ultraviolet is good smoke, heady, while Buddha Syrup was more on the boring side of getting high.

If you grow in soil and the longest you are usually away is 5 days, and you have the money to set up a small version of one, I would say possibly try a flood and drain system, or hydro grow since they are both hands free watering solutions, and also allows you to remove the soil from the grow. Personally I would suggest this thread for making a bubbler style grow bucket.

you will still lose those 5 days monitoring wise, but as long as you are confident you have everything dialed in properly and monitor the weeks before, I am sure you can get away with it. But again, some other people might have better advice. :O

I'm not worried about the immediate short-term. The plants I currently have growing will be ready in June/July.. my idea was to not grow again until the fall and then do an auto to get some product quickly.

I misunderstood, but, yeh, that should work, too.

Autoflowers are easy, just so long as you remember that they're hungry & in a hurry.

Youll definitely get a harvest to hold you over but its going to be crappy in e grand scheme. Youll understand later.

I take it you haven't grown modern autoflowers. Breeders have been putting a lot of work into them, and it shows.

They don't compare to elite clone only varieties, but those are freaks of nature, anyway.

I never grow indoors during the summer months for just the reasons mentioned. Too many trips interupting things. And too hot. Good question.
