I like to let the plant if from seed simply run it's natural course. Many of the different training techniques are utilized because a given plant responds favorably. Or rather, growers will tend to keep plants that favor their technique.

For me, each plant needs what it needs....and I like variety. So, a long flowering sativa that I know is going to stretch for me and branch out, I'll tie down LST. If I have a lady that is just growing straight up with no lateral branching...I'll top her to encourage side growth....and sometimes a plant that grows this way STILL does not want to branch, you have a good candidate for SOG. If topped and the main two are still out growing everything and there IS lateral branching but it's kinda uneven, I'll super crop to let the rest of the plant catch up...

It all depends on what the plant needs from me...and probably more so what I'm trying to get a plant to do for me...

I agree w dank.frank. It takes time to understand, but your plants will tell you what they need, if you are listening.
Personally, since I do a micro r2d2 box, I have to do a lot of LST to control height and depending on strain, plenty of leaf removal to expose lower areas to better light and air, and really top out at 2 3 gallon pots for a run. But I can take the same room and run 9 SGS pink salad (an auto) in SOG style, with no training, pruning, or pinching involved...just let them run for 70 and I'm done.

thanks " dank.frank" but then ther is a issue when to remove leaves , knowing the light restrictions, but then again removal of fan leaves could "hurt" the plant, one person said " if prunning, topping, ect you should do it at least 1/2 hour after watering" intresting , but I can see were iti might not put plant into "shock" as bad? I like the natural" way like you said but leanibg on LST to increase yield, what do tou think?"
