Growing in SMALL POTS.

Hello,
I've got a pc and just got all my seeds germed..they finally cracked...(UNDER 24 HOURS!!!)

well, seems like I got more germed than expected now...i was expecting for to not germ and what did. So, i'm trying to utilize my space efficiently.

So, needless to say I've got really small pots. I know it makes the plants smaller and all. But, if you were comparing, would you get more yield off of less plants in bigger pots? or more plants in smaller ones?

Or, if you have any opinons and ideas about how to maximize yields in small pots and what not I'd really appreciate it or if you have any experiences...do tell...

b10, I like your microcab. Have you considered putting your plants in one container instead of several smaller separate ones? I bet you could find a plastic rectangular shaped container that would fit in the pc case. How do you plan to keep the seed plants small anough while they mature? Maybe, next round you will have small mature clones ready to flower.

your gonna have issues micro-growing from seed. and your yeild will suffer growing in small pots.

I recently tp'd from 1.8gal to 4gal 2 weeks into flower and oh my freakin lord the plants were so tied into themselves it was insane. 2 days after teh transplant they have almost doubled in size and are packin on the weight!!!

PHB, I would like to hear more about coco coir and being able to grow plants in smaller pots. Anyone else have any info to add. I need to reduce my pot size if possible without effecting yeild.

root mass is directly related to yield

16 ounces of dirt isn't going to yield you more than a gram or two of herb

I'm not the best person to answer your questions, but I guarantee that someone in the Growing in Coco Coir forum can tell you everything you need to know. That said I have read a number of posts which talk about coco's ability to support larger plants in smaller pots than would normally be expected of soil.

this post refers to the plant Muddy Waters attached a picture of earlier in the thread which is being grown in 1.5 liters of mixed media including coco

and to emphasize that point...

gaiusmarius is one of the resident experts on the subject (and the coco coir moderator)

I think if you browse the coco forum you will learn a lot about the potential of the medium.

I would seriously consider growing the seedplants until they are big enough to take a couple cuttings then delete the seedplant and flower the cuttings, even when you have the room growing seedplants can actually be less productive then flowering out its cuts.

Like PHB said...check out the coco forum. But I can attest to using smaller pots with coco. Coco is like passive hydro. I have seen plants in 2G pots yeild over 5oz each. I have a couple of pics in my gallery of some NL grown in coco in 4" pots. The green starter pots. Hand watered once a day. It didn't yeild a ton...but it was just an experient to see if it could be done. I use nothing but 2G pots now....and I am very happy with the results as opposed to a peat based mix in large pots.

Cheers,
SH

43 inches from top of the soil to the top of the buds. 32 ozs of coco coir. . Bonecarver_OG has/had one 3 ft tall in a 12 oz plastic beer cup.

Yeah, I usually stagger germs so I don't overplant seeds (roll em out every 48-72 hours so the # of plants is manageable). Now that you have an embarassment of riches, maybe you could find other places to grow up enough of the little folks until you sex em. If even after that you have extra, maybe cloning is in order.

How stealthy do you NEED to be?

Otherwise, I think you should try to keep em all until you sex them, then delete any "extra" gals that don't seem to have characteristics you are looking for.
