Grow Tracking Software

Does anyone use any grow tracking software? I am a software developer and would was thinking about creating software (preferably www) that will allow you to track various aspects of growing, grow room, etc. However if there is something available I see no reason to reinvent the wheel either.

Anyone know of software like this?

Anyone interested in developing something like this? I personally work with PERL/PHP and have a development environment etc.

Hi Vato,

You can check out the Highgrow program, its trial shareware, cute but lasts only 60 days after which you plants die unless you register and pay 20 dollars. Also its definitely not perfect, if you can come up with a more realistic program that'd be great! This one has some details which i find appalling, especially for those with no knowledge of growing.

TK {Texas Kid} was checking out some software a while back too... It was more of a Grow Room Log type thing, as I recall. I looked at it, and tried it out, but it was more of a hassle than it was worth in the longrun.

I'm sure the thread where it {and a few other packages} were discussed is back there in the File Room {ancient forum history} someplace... But I've not been able to find it this morning.

Maybe TK will pop in and remind us what it was called...

I think I will work on developing the www software. I believe this software should be free for all, maybe I can get Gypsy or OG to run the software. Here are my thoughts on what should be tracked, inital features etc.

I develop in PHP, so it will be a PHP www app. I will make it downloadable with installation instructions for private use.

Features
Grow rooms tracked by user id (needed to recall plants)

Multiple Grow Room Support
Room lighting
Room Size
Room Temp (logged)
Room Ventilation (logged)

Hydro or Soil (Variations of certain logging/tracking aspects therein)

-Hydro
Multiple Controllers per grow room
Plant Sites supported per controller
Controller Volume (Gallons)

Controller Temp (logged)
Controller PH (logged)
Controller TDS (logged)
Controller Changes (Water, Nutes, Etc logged)

-Soil
Per Plant Logging

-Plants
Name - ID
Picture (optional)
Strain
Born on Date
Origination (Seed-Cutting)
Mother Name-ID
Type (Soil-Hydro)
Stage (Veg/12s)
Size (Logged)
Yield (wet/dry/trimmed)

If I forgot anything or whatever let me know.

See here is the deal, I will never think of everything. The plan right now is to develop a beta and let people access it under development and make feature suggestions etc.

Anyone interested in this type of thing? Any coders out there willing to lend a helping hand? I can probably knock out something rudementary with limited features in a few days, reporting and additional features can be added with time.

Any Takers?

I have a portion of the work done, I should be prepared for beta users by early next week. If you would like to be part of the beta let me know. I will be glad to work with you. The server I run his on is a private, firewalled, secure server and free from prying eyes.

Vato I'm sure you'll find many newbie growers interested in this type of thing, especially if the program is well done. My own learning experience was (and is) hands on, but if I had been able to get a hold of one of these little programs back then I would've gone for it big-time!

You might want to ask Gypsy about linking people to your server before actually doing so....he likes to keep a tight hand on our security here, for which all of us are thankful.

Hi, thanks for the input. Good advise on asking Gypsy to check out my server before hand. Security cannot be understated in my opinion, I do not think I would enjoy jail.

I'm working on a project like this. imho, I do not believe it should be primarily a web app (but more power to you), for a couple of reasons: the most blatant is security, but friom the point of view of a grizzled IT professional, client/server apps suck badly when the server is unavailable. I'm planning on doing an app in Python, which will stand alone, and upload to a grow diary if so desired. Python gets me windows, macs, *nix and handhelds. my primary target platform is the pocket pc. at this time, I'm basically hand modeling the dataflow using excel. it would be nice if we could devellop a common set of goals, and terminology. what are you using for enviro data collection? I'm using lacrosse hardware and the wxweather package to gather data. expensive all around, but my understanding is the lacrosse people have some sort of exclusive license with them and would not provide their data structures to others. it's a suck arrangement, first you lay out $200- $300 for the hardware then it's $70 more to collect the data.

when I really started in on design docs and such, I began to see all the things I really didn't know. my app will of course, initially tailored by my grow and my requirements. my principal assumption was the need to track a plant from germ to harvest and curing, ok, what's wrong with that? I grow for me, and don't have a vast number of plants, plus, I grow indoors, in soil, from seed, but I'm a professional developer, so a truly pro app would have to address clones, hydro, outdoor grows, and more serious grows. I also know nothing of the kind of info a breeder would want to track.

my goals include as much automated (and wireless) data entry as possible. I'm planning on bluetoothing a usb scale, and making use of bt barcode readers to track indiv plants.

I have "velvet" at home on my computer. I will copy tonight and post.

The other one was super complete setup called" my garden" or something like that.

Look at dog breeding programs, it's suprisingly the same as plants. You can do pedigrees, breeding program, schedules, every possible variable is in there to work with and develope a database of grow runs

Sweet Sin, That cover about everything. I bet you could set it to shut down when a prox sensor or motion sensor goes off.(quiet mode)

Yes TK
You can do a lot with the Software.
even remote monitoring.
Cell Phone Alerts and Email Mesages.... abit over the Top for me.
But the rest of it looks Right on.

and I like the fact you can Chart every little detail.
Course then so can the Law. :(

Price is not bad.
And can add on later. The Flood Dector alone is worth getting it.
Im gonna do it for the Next Run.
2 months or so.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but does anyone know of a good grow tracking/scheduling program?

I use excel like a mofo, but I'm thinking about starting a db of some sort so I can build calendars of watering/feeding schedules and important dates

If anyone is still curious, there's one called The Grow Assistant. It requires Filemaker, but PirateBay has that. It's ok, works, worth a look. I think it is on Cannabis.com.
