Grow tent Question

I am wondering about the quality of the Secret Jardin Darkroom. Specifically the dr150 (approx 5 feet x 5 feet x 6'7''). I believe I can run a nice 1000W in there. Can anyone tell me if these are of good quality and if I Can fit that level of wattage in there? The dimensions seem absolutely perfect for what I want and I'm really hoping those things are good enough quality to be worth it. All info and opinions welcome. Thanks all.

Peace,

I'm gonna quote myself, as this will answer your questions. But in brief - most definitely you can run a 1000w in one of those, as I do it in the 4x4, and the quality is excellent in my opinion, though I've only had one for a month or so.

Hey NK..

I run a 1000w light in my 4x4 Jardin tent, with a can 33 filter, so similar to what you have in mind, and I had a poisonous Hydrohut prior to that, so I've run the same setup in one of those too.

Temps are 73-78 degrees F at canopy level, and I keep the light about 2 feet above the plants.

You'll definitely need to add another 6'' vortex to run a 1000w light, as I run 2 of those myself; 1 to the reflector at full speed and one to the filter at 75% power. I also use a 6'' inline fan for intake when I run it zipped up.

I love this setup :0]

I would avoid the Hydrohuts and Habitat tents.. I hear the Homebox tents are straight if you have your heart set on that style. Having used both, I recommend the Jardin tent for sure, though I don't care for the ducting socks and use the Hydrohut duct things.

And I feel like throwing out a pic of my Hashberry babies hehe

Good luck man whatever you decide!

Good luck to you as well!

I haven't done it, but I think you would be better off with 2 600's in a 5x5 space. More cost up front, but "operating" costs would be about the same and I bet yield would be much better because you'd have virtually no "marginal" areas of light coverage.

I know opinions vary, but I have talked to a number of folks who have gone from a single 1000W to two 600's and all have liked the result.

I agree - for a 5x5 space, 2 600 watt lights would definitely be the way to go, as that gets you to just about 50 watts per square foot, whereas the 1000w would only be about 40. I didn't come up with the number or anything, but people more educated than myself seem to be feeling that 50watts per square foot amount.

Hey Pedro - dunno if you chat with these folks often, but do you know how much heat the 2x600w lights generate in comparison to the 1x1000w setup? Were they OK with the same ventilation? I've seen long threads about the pros and cons of each setup, but no comments regarding the overall heat.

BongJangles :) Gotta love that nick!

The sum of what I know from various discussions is that if you could keep temps in line using 1x1000W, especially the older, less efficient versions...then 2x600W should be OK. If an individual's situation was marginal for exhausting heat with 1x1000, then more ventilation was usually required for 2x600. There are a number of variables that make it hard to compare though. Some blowers are better than others. Ducting schemes can make a big difference....did for me 1st grow last year. Bottom line for me is I'd rather have too much than not enough ventilation. I use a Dayton 465 for my 400W in a 39x39x78" grow tent(through a carbon scrubber) Some would say thats overkill, but it works like I want(for me).

I used to run 2 600s and keeping them cool was a serious BITCH. I'm pretty sure a 1k doesn't generate as much heat as two 600s running concurrently. I think I could more effectively cool a 1K with direct active air cooling. I also intend to hang a much larger carbon filter on it than you have there Mr. Bong, just because I tend to be paranoid and obsessed with safety. Safety first being a good mantra given our collective hobby here. I am glad to hear the build quality is good, and if the flanges are the biggest complaint I think we will all do well with this thing :). Reflective Interior is great but I like even more the 97% thermal shielding. I'd sleep a lot better at night with that covering my flower room. 5x5 is the kind of space I really want to work in as well, I'm going to run a smaller cab grow with a 600 for a while since I have a hortilux bulb that has a lot of life left on it, and I can further refine my skills and methods. Plus I certainly want to hear more reports on this thing before I go and buy it since $350 USD is quite a bit to drop. I do like the extra vertical space since I want to start growing Kalichakra and Satori as well my Hashberry. Thanks for the responses all, much appreciated. I might just have to get the dr150 the second I have the money saved though. ;)

[edit] btw mr. bongjangles those hashberry babies look fantastic, keep up the good work.

I should say I am now once again considering two 6s because of efficiency. Also bear in mind I had no cooling on my lamps the last time around, which probably had an effect. I figure two air-cooled hoods with six inch flanges and a 6 inch inline fan should keep the lamps cool fine. There will be a separate fan (also six inches) mounted on top and connected via ducting to the filter (which is going to be fucking huge so I'm not even gonna bother trying to hang the thing in a tent, just let it rest on the floor). I agree, operating costs would be about the same, especially if you run your lights at night as I do to take advantage of lower power grid load and consequently lower prices. Easier cooling too as ambient environmental temp is always going to be lower. I do pose a question though - what is the best layout to use if you are running two 600s in that tent?
