Grow Room Ventilation

Right now I'm working on constructing my first grow room and my first grow period. Its all I've been thinking about, I'm so fucking excited to get this started. I'm going to be framing roughly a 12' x 6' area, and stapling mylar to the studs as walls. I'm going to be running 3 400 watters. When it comes to the ventilation I'm pretty much clueless. What would you guys recommend doing for intake and exhaust? I would really appreciate some help guys.

1200 watts in 12x6??
I run 1K in a space roughly 10sq. ft. (100w per sq/foot).
You should be able to run 3K in that room very easily, unless you live in the Sahara..
I would also ditch the Mylar, and go with panda plastic or flat white paint. The mylar gets dirty easily, and is hard to clean.
I'd need to know more info about your location and plans for ventilation needs. Are you gonna run air-cooled hoods, Co2, A/C??

I'll explain my setup..
2x5x7 closet
400w CMH + 600w HPS
YieldMaster II aircooled hoods
6inch Vortex HO (440 CFM) with a speed control- runs at about %75
Can50 scrubber

I use the vortex to pull air through both my hoods and my closet. At one point I was using two fans, one for the lights, one for the room, but I have simplified things a bit (KISS). The Vortex outputs to the Can50 scrubber. My input air is from outside, and I run lights-on @ night, so my air temps are nice (70-78).

Here's what I would say..
get 2x600's, and build your space. You could split it up into a few rooms (veg, mom's, and bloom)- 2x600 should be good for a 4x4 (75w per sq/foot) area. Start there, build up when you have things perfected.

Anyway, I'm by no means a expert, but offer any advice I can from my limited exp.

Thanks for the reply. I already have the 400's, and they are not air cooled. I might end up getting co2 as well. Is 12' x 6' to large? I'm trying to run about 30-35 plants, and I need a bit of room to get around.

you want between 50-100 watts per sq/foot. If you use the entire area, you have 35 watts per sq/foot. It will work, but not very good. The higher wattage lights have more penetrating power, and more coverage. I would get the 400's as close as possible (maybe use a light mover) together, and use only the space it covers (4x4 or 4x8 with a mover). You have plenty of room to grow (no pun intended). How are you growing, soil, hydro, etc?? If you haven't already, take a look at this thread:

CTSV's space sounds about like yours, and he's got somewhere around the same #'s you are looking for. He's also using 400w ballasts (although with CMH) non air-cooled.

Maybe I will grab a 600w or 1000w. I'm running soil, do you have any idea how many cubic ft of dirt I would to fill about 50 3 gal pots? Thanks for the help bro, I gotta get to bed I got class in the morning.
