Grow room setup, help needed on design

Hey all -

I have a few things I need help on before I build a grow room. I will be living in an upstrairs apartment, only one apartment over a buisness.

I will be using a 1k watter with air cooled reflector. I plan to section the spare room into something suitable for this 1k. I was either thinking about 4x4 or 5x5. 5x5 sounds to be better as it will allow me room for more plants and extra fans.

I plan to section a corner of the room off to make a 5x5 section using 2x4's and Panda Plastic. I was thinking of doing 25 plants in 2 gallon buckets, and after I got some clones doing I would do a perpetual harevest (5 new plants in every 2 weeks).

So my questions:
1 - 4x4 or 5x5 space? 5x5 seems to win in my book for more room to walk/fans/more plants vs 4x4 which gives more watt/sg foot but less plants.

2 - Fan/Carbon filter combo - I was looking at getting that Can 50 combo, I see it goes for about 350-400 on ebay. Is this suitable? Or can I get something cheaper.

3 - Venting - since the grow room will be just a part of the main room, I could vent back into the main room. However this would make it harder to cool the room. Is there any negatives to venting into the wall or cieling?

Thank guys!

I do not think you can fit 25 plants AND walk inside a 5x5 room. You may want to make it so the Panda pulls up and you can get to everything from different sides.

Have you considered a hydro hut?

hydrohut is expensive, i can box in the room probably for like 100 in supplies

Im growing in an apartment in 3x3 closet with a hydrohut mini and 600 watt HPS, wish i had more space. as far as the ventilation goes, I use a vortex 6" fan and can filter, the can 50 would probably be a good choice for your size. just my 2 cents, I would spend the extra 100 bucks and get a hydrohut, just because it will be easier to semi-seal your room for climate control and negative pressure, easier to light proof, less smell. If you are a good handyman I would say you are safe with building your own, just dont skimp on materials and double check everything. Anyways good luck with your room bro -peace

4x4 table as thats all the footprint your 1000 watter will cover your chose in tha can filter is good as its a bit oversized and when it comes to smell and security you can't go to big, As for heat a single 1000 watter isn't going to make that much of a difference. I doubt you'll need a hydrohut as then you will have heat issues (inside the hut)
I run (3) 1000 watters 2 on a 4x8 table and 1 on a 4x4 table and after getting semi dialed in get about 4 lbs per 50 day crop which wkhen you get to know what your doing should yield 1.3 lbs

i was talking to a few users here and they both suggested the 5x5 with the 1000watter. one of them was running about 30ish plants with a 2 week veg in promix and getting great results.

as far as the hydrohut, i rather build it, im pretty handy i can screw up some 2x4 and do the panda plastic and it will be sealed more then a hydrohut with more options and ability to hold that big can filter.

i actually found a 40lb carbon filter anda 400 cfm fan on ebay for about 300 shipped, econo plus was the brand.

so any more opinions on teh 4x4 vs 5x5? i read some hoods do a 5x5 area?

Alot of guys talk of growing trees, I disagree. I can grow 2 crops by the time they've done 1. I'm now getting 3.5 - 4 lbs (3 1000 watters) per crop every 50 days

what is the range of watts per square feet that is necessary for flowering? when i did my first indoor grow, i had a 3x3 closet with 400 watts so thats like 40-45 watts/sq foot and it worked out

you want about 50 wpsf as a guideline in terms of lighting efficiency. I wouldnt go any lower. Stay just above 50 IMO.

If it was me, and I was going to use a single 1000 watter, I would hang it vertically and have plants all around it in a circle to maximise light efficiency.

Might consider a 5x5 sog for 25 even 6x6 for 36 and reduced veg time. I don't think single trees are efficient for your space since it's all about making the most of your area. A single tree will take forever to train into a nice canopy compared to a sog that's ready in days. Also take into account the extra space you'll need for moms and cuttings unless you already have a veg/clone space planned out.

Go with a 5x5 space. You don't have to fill the whole thing.
