Grow room construction material questions

What can anyone tell me about gas emitting construstion materials? In an on going attempt to improve a three meter grow room we have been advised to tear down and start over because of the materials used. Experts have told us that we should not use any PVC related materials, including vinyl floor covering. Some have said that even plywood will emit gas when warm and be bad for the grow.

I say they are full of shit and need that verified. Obiously anything can be sealed.

Cheers,

Pm a mod like smokeypufmaster in the tokers den and have them move this to the grow room design forum rather than the cannabis infirmary.

Yeah, I guess I should be more specific. Our plants are sick and the grow room construction material is being blamed. My partner wants to tear down the whole thing and start over. I told my partner that properly sealed anything will work fine. The room is built of plywood, construction glue and nails. The floor has a cheap vinyl covering. The plants are suffering from stunted growth, lots of yellowing and crisping of the upper leaves. Mainly in the flower room. In soil, under 2X600, properly vented, etc.

I believe the problem to be compacted soil, but my partner does not buy this as my partner has grown for years. The problems started a year ago with the costrustion of the new room.

PVC and cushion floor probably do contain some petroleum related substances..but not certain> I do know when you burn pvc and cushion floor there is a lot of black noxious smoke as a result of being burned. For walls I use 5/8" moisture resisant drywall. If you don,t have a cement floor then you can use sheets of dura-rock which is a concrete material which is 1/2" thick. In a room this could just be laid down without gluing or nailing as the weight of it will keep it fairly flat.
Personally I wouldn,t use a room without the above mentioned materials.I look at it as insurance. But it is a matter of preference ..most times regular materials will and do suffice.Just be careful and keep a regular check on the room.I look at the possibility of a light dropping into your lants or the floor. We all know how hot lights can get and easily a fire can result. As to whether regular materials like pvc or cushion floor is bad for your plants that is another story..I really don,t think it has much of an affect esp when you are exhausting to the outside. As for plywood it is glued toghether in sheets and wheteher or not it has an affect ...who knows.Paint the plywood with a low VOAC paint.the paint emits verylittle odor.
good luck

There is nothing in those materials that is going to harm your grow....unless you are burning it at the time!!
Those are probably the most common things used--
The prob lays elsewhere-- :rasta:

Your partner is probably worried about VOCs volitile organic compounds i belive? may be wrong. i have studied green building/design a bit and they try and avoid materials that contain them in building but i doubt many people are building their grow rooms with green building materials and many seem to producing nice herb anyhew. I would look into other problems as i would be very suprised if that was your problem and get yourself a partner that isn't so much of a tree hugging hippie..... :muahaha:

Sounds like they BS'd you. I think the gases are in levels that are irrelevant.

Search the infirmary and you will see lots of likely causes to your problems.

I've used those materials for years. That's crazy unless you are using temps that are crazy high. You can't grow in those temps to begin with.
