Grow cabinet exhaust fan filter!

I’m planning to build a wood grow cabinet lit by HLG 320 v2 xl rspec. Will have passive intakes. Dimensions will be 2.5x5x7ft. I’d like to exhaust the air directly out of the room so it’s not recirculated. I believe this space will need around 160 m3/h, or 1-2 extractions per minute. That puts me at around 95 cfm. I’m guessing I’ll need a bit more capacity for the heat as well. Can someone tell me aprox what a few good options would be for exhaust fan and carbon filter combo. I was looking at the Can-Fan 4 inch S 400 rated around 120 cfm mated with a Canlite or Can33.

While that solution will work, you will not have a lot of extra capacity to play with should you need it. (Think extra hot summer temps, added lighting... etc) If your budget allows, I'd look at a six inch Hyperfan along with a Phresh 6x24 filter. The Hyperfan comes with a speed controller so you can dial it down as low as you need. I've run the Hyperfans in six inch and ten inch as well as the Phresh filters without issue for the last several years. Just my .02.

Thank you Starke much appreciated. If I planned to dial it down would it be just as affective to mate it with a Phresh 6x16 filter? Any other suggested fan and filter combinations for a grow cab of this size??

The 6x16 will work at reduced air flow. My recommendation is for basically any decent 6 inch fan and filter combo vs four inch. The six inch will allow you some wiggle room in your cab and can easily be used in a larger space/tent etc down the road if needed.

Excellent question and answers, ty. :)

Do you, or have you thought about, DIY hepa style filters on your intakes?

Yes I’m planning to build slide-in pocket on the inside to accommodate filters mated with two 8”x8” dark room louvers on the lower short sides of the cabinet. Also gonna do a series of smaller louvers or some form of passive intake on the underside of the cab.

get the biggest filter you can fit and get a Phresh or Phat filter, they are better than most other filters of similar size. i have used Canfilters, Active air and a couple others i cant remember.

my cabinet dimensions are similar to yours, mine is maybe slightly smaller and I have a 8x24 Phresh filter. it's been going strong for about 3 yrs. with Zero odors.

good luck to ya

Considering the hyper fan 6 V2 over the original. Does anyone know if the V2 will be distributed in North America? It looks like only available out of UK and Australia for now.
