grow box security

so i set up a 250 watt grow box and my landlord said that my power bill doubled and he was going to have the hydro company investigate why the power usage when up so much. just i don't know what to do if i should just shut down the box or not worry about it. i don't want the green team showing up at my door and busting me for 6 plants in my little cab. i also don't know how the box could double my power bill? all i am running is the 250 watt and a fan for carbon filter

Landlord is prob shitting you - worst case scenario, your 250 costing less than $1 a day.

Something else up his ass? Smell? A rat? Light leaks? Popping breakers/fuses?

Deny, deny, deny - replace all other bulbs in apt. w/ cfls.

Put a lock on box - need a warrant to enter it.

sounds unlikely, but i've seen threads like this before, far bigger jumps in bill than size of lights

plugging your laptop into the wall draws more power than a 250w light... i think your landlord is suspicious for some other reason, and is just making up some kind of excuse to make it seem like his inspection is "legitimate"

ya that is what i thought the light should cost like 10 to 15 bucks a month at most. i should get a kill-a-watt tester and see what it is using. it has a lock on it but here they will show up at your door with a hydro guy, electrician, city inspector, fire inspector and police to do an inspection of the house if they think you have a grow op and for some reason they don't need a warrant for that.(lmao) i was thinking of changing to led but still going to draw at least 200w of power which still maybe to much. i guess all i can do is try to investigate where all the power is going or shut it down back to buying smoke that would suck ass . he is old and retired has way to much time on his hands lol not good i guess.

when you mentioned old and retired, i think that puts it pretty clearly
he watches everything close, when he says double he's likely exaggerating
if you can sub something else to do the equivalent draw, have that going if they do an inspection and it will be 'explained' where the power is going

no need to be a smart ass, i was just trying to illustrate that 250w is negligible and most appliances and electronics use much, much more power

I'm with everyone else, something clearly isn't right here. First of all something else has caught this man's eye, a 250w is pretty goddamn small. If people came in to check it'd be as simple as having a new desktop computer you didn't use to. Laptops do draw much less power, but nice new desktop's draw plenty, as do many other things. If this asshole that's supposed to be your landlord is up ur ass this much I'd let em come in if you aren't flowering and move my shit for a day. Make him look like a jackass carefully, then continue about your way. I mean seriously wtf? I live in small rented facility probably smaller than yours and run way more then that and it's ever changing. Between my lights, schedule, woman, girls that need light, and various appliances that I own.

i wounder what the utility is gonna think if the landlord comes in with a $50 hydro bill and says that his tenant has a grow. another possibility is that some other tenant is tapping into your service or the landlord is wacky
