Grow automation program.

Mr House is a Pearl based application that is intended for home automation. Is has the capability to interface to many hardware devices.(X-10,1-Wire) It would work great for a grow as well. Too bad you need a PHD in computer science to get it going. (For the record: yes...I am a idiot and others may find it simple. ;) )

I played with the 1-wire stuff back when Minds_I mentioned it a year+ ago. As part of that effort, I tinkered with MrHouse a little. I really never got very far with it. The problem for me was that it takes a good deal of computer savy to get things installed and going. (you need to install Perl/MySql- config this, that and the other...if ya know what I mean)

I did manage to get the Server started and ran the demo. In the end I kinda felt like a deer in caught in headlughts as to how to set the program up. Perhaps I should revisit it.

I have also played with JHOME.net. (Java Basedapplication for 1-wire and X-10 interfaces) Which i did get running with basic temp sensors, relay control. There is not much of a user/support group for Jhome though.

So how is MR. House gonna tell you if your door is open? or what the temp and rh is? does it jus become "one" with your front door and magically tell u its unlocked or left open? i still dont understand? does it communicate using a RF signal like the multisensor wireless temp/humidity monitors? I got a computer genius friend that could figure this program out, but i wanna know how its gonna control everything,... or what it will only control...

Examples:
You would install a switch on the door to detect door position. (alarm type)

To detect temperature/humidity you would use a sensor. like these:

You would attach the sensors to you computer via a interface. (Serial Port, ENET, USB) The interface then connects with sensors.
