Grow Area Choice, Input Please

So I'm trying to decide between a 3x2 4ft tall box or a fridge that is about 4in smaller foot print and 1.5 feet shorter to grow my satories. I would have more room and floor space in the box but the fridge would give me a degree of stealth though not really needed. lightproofing and insulation. do you think loosing the bit of space is worth it? I cant really afford to light both at the moment. I apprciate any comments, thank you.

What size light are you planning on running? What size fan? How stealth do you need to be? What are the temps in your area? How many plants do you want to run?

thanks for those good questions, never can think of everything to say :)

Stealth really is minimal I have almost no guests (I go to them) so unless my landlord sees need to inspect the appartment and even then I could just bull shit somthing about the non descript box. I was thinking somewhere between a 400w and 250 CMH leaning tword the 400 even though I get the feeling its a tad much. The aveage temp in the sumer floats around 70-85 winter 55-70... living near a lake is gay. I keep the house at 74f however and that is fairly consistent.

Plant wise I want to run enough to smoke well excessivly, Having this be myfirst grow I cant say how much that really needs to be but I plan on putting them in milk jug like things making a hempy bucket fitting roughly 4 per square foot, I may however have to enlarge my bucket getting 1-2 per square foot, but I doubt that.

I wish I could say somthing concrete on plant quantity but I hesitate to because I'm trying to stop myself from growing more than I can / want to smoke and then running into legal troubles! for having a stockpile. (if i get caught, though i doubt it.)

since you are renting, stealth IS an issue . landlords sometimes want/need to enter the dwelling. a homemade box could look odd and an extra fridge would also. have you thought about using a homedepot/walmart wardrobe ? lots of people use them and in a bedroom/livingroom/basement they look completely innocent.
in a small cabinet or fridge 250w is often used, those with better ventilation systems often use 400w in them. i would say i am a lightweight to middleweight smoker and i grow more than i can smoke in a 196w flower room and a 69w veg cab.

I would use the box and the 250. You might get away with a 400 if you get a good fan and put her in a cool tube. I atm use a 250 cmh and it kicks ass I must say, I usually have a couple grams a day to smoke on with out running out wit hmy perpetual harvest but I have been smoking heavy lately and am looking into a 400 cmh myself, but I will be using a bit of a bigger space than 3x2 for the 400. 3x2 is what I have right now for the 250 in a cool tube with a 265 blower pulling and my temps stay at 77. My weather conditions are close to yours as well.
Hope I could help :)

Thanks for the input. I will say this is less of an appartment and more of a slum, you know 1 30 am and kids are running around and some guy is screaming at a lady... lord knows why. though i'm sure he has a reasonable point he broke a bottle :p. But I suppose I cannot be to carefull, how much would that wardrowbe cost, my budget is sorta tight. How many plants or square feet do you use or is that actually irrelivent b/c of things like scrog?

also I could probally hook up a solid ventilation system, I have a few window fans lying around that I could attach to my cab.

didnt see your reply. thanks doug. I may just have to go 400 since it seems doable and I would like to have room to grow, so to speak. for when I finally move out I wouldnt want to have a ballast to weak... though now that I think of it would 250 be good for a respectable sized veg room my ballast could always graduate to one of those.

Am I missing somthing, I went and looked I failed to see a wardrobe under 100$ either way I can always just say the extra fridge is because I'm a lazy drunk or that I like to buy in bulk and sometimes I just need the extra storage (my mom does that so it cant be too weird, she has 4 fridges... one thanksgiving when turkeys went on sale she bought 20) or with the box I could just say I'm keeping some darkness likeing pets like rats or what have you. sure its not perfect, but I do know my landlord she is sheepish and avoids trouble. Once I invited her in b/c some people where complaining about an alarm (i forgot to turn it off... it was going for like 8 hours) and she noticed I installed shelfs curtians and a light fixture. all explicitly against the lease and she started to say somthing and I told her it looks nice and she shouldnt complain, it worked :).

I hope it doesnt sound like I'm regecting good advice, as I am concerned about security. but the wardrobe costs as much as the citation would in my state and if i get evicted there are plenty of vacancys in this area. If these things where not true though I would completly agree with the wardrobe thing (though that price is steep !)

note: edited 3 posts into one so I seem like less of a jack-ass

i can understand about money being tight. the wardrobes sometimes go on sale or you might find one at a thrift store. if you think the fridge (or the box) won't arouse suspicion then go for it. another option is a dresser grow, they can easily be had for free off Craigslist if you are in a big city. whatever you choose, just keep in mind that big light = big temps = big fan = big noise.

yea looks like Ive got alot to think about between 250 and 400. when it comes to dressers would I just glue the drawer faces unto it and make a door in the back or somthing... thats a pretty soild Idea I will have to start looking into that :)

I love my freezer. Especially for it's stealth. Obviously a bigger box with bigger lamp would provide more smoke but, I'm with Green Grow. If you're renting, stealth should be a consideration. Whether it's a fridge or something else. One of the freezer's best tricks is, it provides an explanation for the sound it produces. The fans tiny whirr and the ballasts near imperceptible humm sound just like an old freezer.

that looks intresting but I dont think I want to pay for a DVD :p the lights on the door is a nice idea though, that is stolen. So one question where are these cheap pc fans, Ive never seen them for less than 8$ I can get a fan nearly 5x the size made of metal in big lots for that! are they cheap somewhere I dont know about.

veg in one flower in the other......?

for $25 you can make a nice mom/veg room no need for all the fancy fans if you run a few cfl's .....

i say flower in the fridge you can keep it cooler easyer :)

for a dresser grow, i would remove the drawer fronts and glue them onto some sort of panel that would then be mounted on the front. you COULD go for the rear-access set-up, but that would necessitate moving the dresser around every time you want to access the inside; a pain in the ass, i think.
