Anyone shop at grocery stores like Whole Foods Market? I'm curious to know what the difference is in the overall grocery total between places like Whole Foods & the more common joints (Albertsons, Piggly Wiggly, etc)---more, less, about the same?
I perfer whole foods market for my meats. In my area they have the best quality meats besides the butcher shops. I dont shop there for general groceries though. They seem a little over priced compared to krogers etc. But, to answer your question they have a fucking huge amount of grocery's when compared to others IMO.
sorry nikki, but piggly wiggly? my grandmaw shopped at the local PW...lol. G&H stamps.
no piggys here, but lots of "organic" stores. seems they are mostly in more affluent sections of this city of 1/2 a millon. W/that said you can know everything is pricy when it has organic on it.
Want a Business with .5% Margines? Where thieft and breakage account for 25% or more of the Retail Price? Want to beable to charge less at one store and more at another because one is in a rich area and one in a poor area?
Love the thought of 3 Major Suppliers to choose from?
Whole Foods ought to be cheaper in the long haul. They have VOLUME behind them. In the Grocery Business Volume is the ONLY way to survive.
Wbole foods has more exotic foods. Heirloom, locally grown, organic vegetables. Specialty wines and cheeses. A nice salad bar/buffet type section. Premium coffees. Juice bars. Etc. Everything is pretty much natural and organic... its totally different than a normal Albertons. I love Whole Foods. I used to work at one actually.
90% of my store bought food is from an organic market, not a Whole foods, but a much better local one. I find overall food quality to be better then regular supermarkets, def. meat's and cheeses.
I shop at Trader Joe's and its not too much more expensive if at all. I think organic foods are the way to go, there aren't pesticides or chemicals used in them. Some of these chemicals that are put into foods can cause hormonal imbalances and even other imbalances that can send our bodies homeostasis levels out of whack, and lead to more problems. Certain chemicals can block essential nutrients that are needed for our body to function properly. Its overall worth it to shop healthy IMHO.
Edit: While some of the blocked nutrients that are caused by these chemicals can be supplemented in multi vitamins and such. This is not always the answer because for example we can't make anti oxidant supplements that don't act the same way as anti oxidants in our vegetables and fruits. So don't think that supplementing multi vitamins is the answer. Anti oxidants are something as simple as Vitamin E or other essential nutrients. And for some reason we can't recreate the same effect as what is in our fruits and vegetables.
Big Star, Piggly Wiggly, and Harris Teeter are all merging into one huge grocery store chain. After much consideration, the Board of Directors have chosen Dolly Parton as the Commercial Spokeswoman..
And they have decided on a name for this new grocery store chain:
there is a wonderful grocery store in north carolina called The Fresh Market... it is a truly great store... I guess a far second would be whole foods...
Whole Foods....we call it 'Whole Paycheck' around here. There is a lot of nice things there, but you'll pay for it. Get used to frozen dinners for $6 a piece, $3 organic avocados, ready to eat meals for $7-$8....I would guess that if you took your regular cart full of groceries, and bought something comparable to each item from Whole Foods, it would be at least half again as expensive, potentially double the cost depending on your tastes.
never shopped at one of those, always kroger or publix. harris teeter is a ripoff here. i can easily spend $5 more on the same stuff at harris teeter vs. kroger.
