Feds Warn Of Marijuana-Filled Gumballs
Gumballs Called 'Greenades'

POSTED: 7:00 am CDT July 27, 2006

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. -- Authorities aren't happy about yellow, smiley face gumballs.

The federal Drug Enforcement Agency is warning about so-called "Greenades," which are marijuana-containing gumballs.

Survey: Used Drugs?
The DEA is issuing an intelligence bulletin about the pot candies to police departments across the country. The smiley face gumballs were first discovered at a Howard County, Md., high school in January.

Police charged three 17-year-old students after a teacher alerted a school resource officer. She told the officer that she saw a student give a plastic bag that the teacher believed contained drugs to another student.

The officer seized the bag, which contained two "candy balls," police said. The gumballs came wrapped in colorful tin foil labeled as "Greenades" with a marijuana leaf on the wrapper and detailed instructions for use. Instructions on the foil told users to chew for 30 minutes to 1 hour "before you would like receive your high" and to "chew for as long as possible, then swallow."

Officers charged two students with distribution of drugs on school property and a third with possession of marijuana.

The federal Drug Enforcement Agency recently released an intelligence bulletin about the "greenades."

Each gumball contained approximately one gram of marijuana, and the total net mass of the two gumballs was 17.5 grams.

If a toddler were to ingest the amount of THC, the active chemical in marijuana, in one gram of high grade marijuana it could produce harmful effects, according to PRWeb.

"The way drugs are being marketed and packaged these days to encourage kids to buy and use them is getting pretty sophisticated. The purpose, of course, is to create future clientele for drugs and what better-targeted market for a pusher than kids. They are young, experimental by nature and have the money to buy it. If they try it and like it, they could end up being a permanent customer that one day ends up in our rehabilitation facility, in jail or dead," J.T. Daily, Director of Drug Education for Narconon Arrowhead, one of the country’s leading drug rehabilitation and education centers, told PRWeb.

good thing PRWeb is there to tell us this. I assume that they imply that it would not be harmful for an adult, as they specify harmfulness due to being a toddler.

lol, i really doubt it being in candy form is going to change any young people's opinions. they really are pressing the addiction angle here, which has been proven false numerous times.. rehab or jail? maybe, but only because they got caught with a plant.. not for any beneficial or deserving reason.. death? we all die some day.. tax evasion is a billion dollar industry.. the only certainty in life is death...

lol i heard about this on the news tonight. they said the gumballs contain some kind of marijuana extract. i wonder how much actual pot one gumball is equal to.

In the other article it claimed that the ingestion of one by a small todler could result in death lol. Atleast this one is saying harmful which to a small kid it very well could be. Which is why parents should be resposible and not leave such things laying around for kids to get. The best investment imo is a safe. Lock all such stuff up and theres no worrys of your kids stumbling upon them. Personally these things sound good I want to go find some lol.

I don't get it.. How can it have a gram of pot in it? I mean is there a bud shoved in middle? How did they come up with a gram?

no theres not a gram of actual pot, we all know you wouldn't get high from eating plain pot. there's probably some kind of hash oil/candy mixture in the middle, like they dissolved the hash oil into the candy while it was being made or something, and apparently the extract mixture in the middle, whatever it is, must weigh a gram.

just seems like an excuse for the government to make MJ look bad.

To anybody with an IQ above room temperature, the hysteria over pot-filled gumballs makes the GOVERNMENT look bad!

The DEA 'publication' Microgram [May 06] has the "intelligence report" [hee] about two [gum] balls in a bag --right at the top-- like the BIG DEAL it is...

Way down on page four is the piece about fentanyl-laced heroin that is actually killing people; about how fentanyl is 30-to 50 times the potency of heroin; about the kilogram of pure Fentanyl HCl that was seized.

WTF?

Dank Galore!
1 gram seems like too much bud to be in there(high grade marijuana) i don't think chewing a gumball full of bud(plant matter) would be enjoyable, nonetheless efective that is if you need to activate the tch(heat) before injestion to have an effect?

peace!

I think they're just putting the bud in the gumballs because kids were selling them at school and passing around gumballs looks less suspicious than passing around than passing around nugs (or does it)?

I could be wrong but thats the jist I got from reading all these articles about it.

Funny how the DEA makes a huge deal out of it. Next they'll the DEA will make a huge deal about people putting nugs in jars. I can see it now "Cannabis found in jars increases potency 100x, kills babies and spread aids!"
