Do you have personal experience with hawthrone for the heart? Or anyone close to you? I ask because you mention its great for the heart and am wondering how you or the person who does use it. I see you mention berry for use in teas or tinctures but at what amounts, for how long etc?
Aye, I make decocted (simmered for ages) tea with fresh or dry berries, dosage from a small handful to a cup or more to a couple of litres, mostly crataegus monogyna, can be mashed and rebrewed a couple of times and is just as strong. Different trees taste different. Dosage is very forgiving - its a tasty tea. Tincture I buy also monogyna from a practitioner supplier for a decent price - alcohol is crazy money in Ireland, and I don't make any. It regulates the cardio vascular system in general, good write up here: https://thepracticalherbalist.com/advanced-herbalism/herbal-encyclopedia/hawthorn-the-heart-healer/
For me it gives me a bit more heartyness about doing things, and really helps me keep it up in bed!
I reckon it'd be good for most people..

Doing really great here!
I cut one of my Pharma meds the blood thinner by half and I have spent the last month on1/2 evil Pharm, blood thinner and a Pomegranate supplement plus daily juice of whole Pom, tart cherry, black cherry juice and I eat two pieces of fruit each eve, organic apple and a pear. been riding my bike regularly and cranking up on the gardening, for more veg.
Awesome to hear you're on the mend, and nice one you're into the dark fruit juices! They're the best, not too sweet, great substitute for red wine, and you can feel how good they are instantly.. Had meself a tart cherry and hawthorn tincture evenin drink with a good toke of MG x PS/UEL #3 and #2, keepin me awake!

Dug the first yams (Dioscorea - the climbing ones) of the year, fried in ghee, ummm,
You got any plantains on the go down south? I love those, maybe some new hardy variety in a glasshouse here, but not the climate really!

Thanks for the quick response! That was an informative read, thanks for the link. I'm not sure what's going on with my heart, arrhythmia is the easiest explanation.
My dr gave my a beta blocker (never took it) and I had an ultrasound, ekg(I think that's the one that reads the heart via electrodes - w\e that one is, is the one I had) and I was supposed to have x-rays but it was a first come first serve set up and I wasn't trying to wait all day so never got them. The person doing the ultrasound was training someone and when the trainee asked what's that (you could see something fluttering on one of the valves) the other said it's nothing to worry about. I think I need a different group of people looking at my heart ...
and I'll be incorporating hawthorne into my daily routine.

If you are on meds for your heart, DO NOT use hawthorn berry extract without consulting a physician. Hawthorn can be toxic and can interact with other meds such as digitalis, and could kill you.
There are certain otc herbs that should not be played with , especially if you are on meds already, hawthorn is one of them ( another is St Johns Wort, if you are on SSRI anti-depressants)

Thanks for the heads up! No pharma or otc here, diagnosed bipolar but the meds had me like a zombie so just stopped them. I'll have to look into how hawthorn plays with various herbs as my teas are full of them.

Hey good buddy!
Great looking nug there! I don't have plantain but three varieties of banana which I eat quite a bit of also. There are a lot of great natural remedies and it's a juggling act but yes you have to be very aware of interactions with meds and natural remedies and remember your juggling your life. It also helps to hear from others experiences to try to make informed decisions.
Last place you want to go is back into the hospital.
