Green lights.

Hey yall. I know its cool to turn a green light on during dark hrs without disrupting the light cycle, simply cuz the plant cannot see green and reflects it. Knowing this, i am still paranoid.
I have a ceiling fan in the bedroom i grow in, and i replaced the 4 regular lights with those green party lights you buy from hardware stores. I tun them on when i need to go in during dark, and it gets pretty bright with green light. So i gues my question is.... Will TOO MUCH green light mess up the cycle? Also, will PROLONGED, or REPEATED periods of green light screw up the cycle..? AND... Do u have to use only certain green bulbs, or will any of em work..? I keep thinking like this... "the bulb looks green, but it could be putting out other spectrum colors besides green too (would be bad)! Just the same way an HPS looks orange, but its putting out more colors than just orange".

Sorry, Im always worrying too much. I just need some reasuurance on these questions. Thx

Yo Smurfin !!
I understand your paranoia on this one. I had the same thoughts once. With that thinking I tested a few bulbs and found some that will not screw with your cycle or plants. I use the GREEN CFLs found in Home Depot. Other hardware store may have em. I also use the 40 watt incandescent type p[arty bulbs your probably talking about. No Problems with this. You can run as many as you like. I've run 4 or 5 at a time with ZERO problems. right now I have 4 - 60 watt CFLs that work great. Very bright. As bright as a regular bulb but with the green tint. Still......no problems.

Now, I had found bulbs YOU DO NOT WANT. I tried the big 100 watt landscape bulbs (flood type). The only issue with those is the base. There is a small amount of clear glass right where it screws into the shell (the thread area). regular light will seep out there. But not enough for US to see it. I noticed it after I had been running it for a few days while I did some major upgrades to the room. I got some herms from it. That was a year ago. Trashed that bulb and went with the CFLs.

Here is how bright my room is with ONE bulb. I run 2 in this room alone and 2 in the bloom room.

Hope that sets your mind at ease !!

Your welcome Smurfin !!

You leave those green lights on all the time or just if you visit in the dark cycle?
Just when you want to visit the during the dark cycle. For me........that's about 2+ hours of working under green light everyday. I run my HIDs after the sun goes down to provide extra heat at night when its colder and less heat during daylight hours, especially in the summertime. This means that my lights come on at 6pm and I prefer to have most of my work done long before that. Thus the need for Green Light.
