GREEN algae in flood/drain tray, help!

I've been having issues with green algae growing in the tray and on top of the medium in the pots. I have also noticed the algae in the hydroton itself. Its only green. I'm using the lucas formula with some Kelp extract. What is the best way to get rid of this, and to prevent it too? I was thinking of using EWC tea, but its not the blown slim. But I'm not sure what will fix it. I have tried 3% h202 in the rez at 2mil per gallon. The algae hasn't went away. Thoughts??


AS you can see in the pic, the algae is all over the roots in the pic. Also on the tray itself.

find a way to keep light from getting to the tray. Use a black trash bag as a covver with the proper holes for your plants.No lite, no algae... good luck!!!!

That is the only way to stop it also keeping water temps colder will help it keep alage at bay.

That is the most severe case of algea growth I have ever seen, you should not have letting it get that bad, alage chockes the plants air intake and the plants starve from lack of o2 and not being able to absorb nutes and causes the plant to show an airy if problems.

When the root material dies from no air it can cause root rot to happen....
Use 2 tsp per gallon and water it, you are not using enough of it to cause a problem.....
Have you tested your water temps?

Also algea can be caused by overwatering too, how often are you watering them by hand or by normal means how the system is setup? How many times a day and for how long each?

If flowering, when did you switch over to using Bloom nutrients?
What order are you mixing your nutrients? (example: veg nutes 1st, bloom 2nd ect)
What is the TDS/EC/PPM you are using?
What is the pH of the "Tank"?
Are you sure your calibration is correct on your equiptment?
When was your last watering?
What is your water temps?
When was your last feeding change? (ie. grow-bloom-micro-additional)
How often do you clean your system: example: Flush out water replace with clean water and nutrients?
What size bulb are you using?
What is the distance to the canopy?
What is your RH Factor(Relative Humidity)?
What is the canopy temperature?
What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include flucutaion range)
What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.)
Tell us about your ventilation, intake exhaust and when its running and not running ?
Is the fan blowing directly at plants?
Is your water HARD or SOFT?
What water are you using? Reverse Osmosis (RO)? Tap? Bottled? Well water? Distilled? Mineral Water?
Are you using water from a water softener?
Has plant been recently pruned, cloned off of or pinched
Have any pest chemicals been used? If so, What and When?

try keeping water temps around 65 F. That is such a severe infection that it's going to take some time to rid of it and most defiantly not just one application........
I would also use more h202 and if that does not work.... do you have access to a hydro shop?

Are you able to remove the plants from the system? just the net pot/hydroton and plants roots?

If so put them into a bucket that has 2 tsp per gallon of h202 and dip them in and out of it, do not mix the h202 in with the plants water system, it kills off the good bacteria as well... the dipping solution acts as a shock and awe type and help kill off a lot and the ones that do not get killed you should try sm90

but the problem is you got too much light and your temps are over 70F both of them will have to be fixed or your problem will keep coming back.
