Wow this is just crazy, the greedy bastards at Monsanto are hard at work again. I am sure they would love to get their greedy little claws into cannabis seeds.

Monsanto says it has no intention of going after farmers who use its beans by accident, so organic farmers don’t need to worry in the short term. But the Supreme Court’s ruling creates the theoretical possibility of biotech “patent trolls” who sue farmers for accidentally planting infringing seeds.
Wow! How kind of them they will just sit by waiting like the scum they are till they find a few nice large crops to sue.

I think the day may be coming when we have "Roundup Ready genes" in cannabis/hemp.

Of course they'll say they don't care if it's accidental... that means that in a few generations all of the plants will be carrying patent markers and then they can prove that it's not accidental.

Monsanto needs to be disbanded and their equipment used for real agricultural progress.

With a multinational company (Monsanto, ALL Pharmaceutical companies, etc) you must assume the worst...

They have the money and influence to have facilities in friendly states and countries and are most likely already well underway in modifying the genetic code of cannabis.

Just recognize US based chemical/pharmaceutical companies have their facilities on LOCK DOWN. They typically have their own: Security forces, Fire Departments and Paramedics who handle any issues in house so they do not have to have non-certified personnel on their properties amongst other reasons

Hello all,

Yeah, I agree Monsanto is evil incoperated but why worry about it.

I would think the only ones to worry are the large industrial producers that will form when nation wide legalization (i.e. Phillip Morris et al) is a reality.

The backyard grower such as myself has nothing to fear.

In terms of the bigger picture (corporate takeover/monetization of EVERYTHING incl. government, food and water, etc.) we all need to be very worried.
Monsanto is the globe-devouring poster child of this. You know they're working on patentable genes to insert in most everything that has commercial potential.

They have such diverse sources of income and distribution over so many different nations it's impossible to track what they do, let alone make sure they stick to regulations that cost them their precious precious money...

Nice documentary film explaining how/why a corporation in a capitalist system inevitably acts in such evil-seeming ways.

Monsanto is nothing special; what we're seeing is an extension of the ludicrous patent system (go look up how many separate patents there are for a 'bread thermal dehydration machine') found in the technological industries into the biological world as people begin to wake up to the potential of biological industry. It's kinda sad that we have huge ethical questions concerning ownership of genetic information, cloning, germline modifications etc. coming right around the corner whilst society at large still can't seem work out if you can fuck who you want or grow what you want...

Indeed.

But my worry is that due to purposeful "accidental" pollination they may legally own every edible (or smokeable) thing if they set their money and lawyers to it.

Who's got a HEPA filter for your pollinations? Are you carrying any foreign pollen on your person?

Your tomatoes would have to be on lockdown like Elliot's house in E.T.

What world is that?
