OK - this is a good one. Here are my favorites. I have a lot of obscure stuff.

Lee "Scratch" Perry - Super Ape
Lee "Scratch" Perry - Arkology Box set, lots of good stuff on that one.
Augustus Pablo - King Tubby meets Rockers Uptown
King Tubby - King Tubby meets Roots Radics
Singers and Players - Any of their 3 albums, great UK stuff - Adrian Sherwood productions
Mighty Diamonds - Go Seek Your rights, compliation
Culture - Harder than the Rest
Meditations - Greatest Hits
Dr. Alimontado - Best Dressed Chicken
Peter Tosh - Legalize It
Creation Rebel - Highs and Lows

these are my favorites that come to mind immediately, there are others I love too. Scientist, Prince Jammy and Dub Syndicate are all good.

Absolutely m.steelers, but for me it was quite a while ago.

Strangely enough, I often come back to listening to reggae, apart from all of Bob Marley records it would be for example:

Burning Spear - Marcus Garvey
Steel Pulse - Handsworth Revolution
I Jah Man - I'm a Levi
Linton Kwesi Johnson - Forces of Victory

anybody remember?

There we go - some good ones in there I see:

kov - burning spear marcus garvey, classic one there. AND LKJ the dub poet. Got some of his stuff too.

great lakes - Price Far I is great. Cry Tuff Dub Encounter is a good one by him. He was in Singers and Players too, one of my favorites. Tellin ya, grab their stuff if you like heavy dub beats with vocals. Other members included Bim Sherman and Mikey Dread. Creation Rebel is on the same tip. Really any Adrian Sherwood production is good. Check out his label "On U Sound" if ya havent already.

SS -Junior Delgado was a good one bro. Of more recent fame Tony Rebel is good. "If Jah" is a great track.

Anyone seen any of these bands? I've seen Lee Perry (incredible show, rare to see him in the US), Culture about a 100 times, the Meditations, the Mighty Diamonds (GREAT harmony, probably the best still playing), Burning Spear -also some dancehall acts.

If you're looking for dancehall - some of the names there are Capleton, Sizzla, Anthony B, Turbulance, Bounty Killa, Elephant Man, Shabba Ranks, Beenie Man etc. Damian Marleys new cd is pretty decent too.

Good thread here - I love this shit.

Thanks for the suggestions M. There's not much reggae culture these days and we have to find it where we can.

Don't forget King Tubby with such greats as the Fat Man Tapes. Ernest Ranglin has put out some good stuff. For more great dub try Sly and Robbie, Dub Syndicate, any Augustus Pablo, Lee "Scratch" Perry's earlier work...

m.steelers, yep I had the privelege of seeing Scratch live too. That guy's crazy, I love him. And Jimmy Cliff was a great live show as well. I caught Damien Marley the other day and enjoyed the show, but didn't necessarily feel that Marley-inspired "one love" feeling coming from the crowd. Good stuff though.

Glad to see the reggae support. Reggae and the sacred herb are the perfect sensory combination. Keep 'em coming...

I saw the Master, HRH Robert N. Marley, live in the late 70s-80s not long before he went. All I can say to this day is that I was mesmerized, in a religious state, and I literally was shaking at the end of the show. I have seen Burning Spear, and many times, in small places. One of the best reggae shows, (and each of these groups have albums that just make it ...so real so funky) I ever saw was Culture; they were playing at Altitude (Boulder COlorado) and came on so late. So stoned. Buy International Herb or their live album. So Joseph Hill tore the house down. Master showman.

However, it would be hard to ignore the Michael Rose, Robbie and Sly version of BLACK UHURU in Denver in the early 80s. Find any album that has Sponji REggae and turn it loose. Splff up and sensi down. Sweet dancing. Buy sensimilla, the album.

I'm rollin with Steel Pulse True Democracy or...

(I don't have an album name) The Black Uhuru with Tip of the Iceberg on it. What no mention of Eek A Mouse (and the sagitarius band) or Mad Cobra? Talk about some verbal stylings! Just how many Riddims are there?
