just want this to be a thread where once great strains have disappeared, or been mostly lost/rare due to mistakers/fakes/imitations occuring. and discuss why they went like this;
MTF is one lets start with this -imitations of the real strain i hear
damn, there are a lot. i will start with all the great landrace sativas from the 70s. it would be great if the real pure panama red, acupulco gold, oaxacan gold, santa marta columbian gold, etc. were still available. that would be heaven!
high&lonesome if you want santa marta columbian gold then id go for Love potion #1 or #2. this is the description on reefermans site.
Love Potion #1 is an outstanding hybrid of G-13 and Santa Marta Colombian Gold backcrossed with the original SMCG male. It’s sweet and skunky piney lemony goodness that will blast you into the sativasphere soaring high clearly cutting through anything that was smoked before. Great SOG and SCROG plant.
LP#2 is new its soposed to be a more twards the SMCG side.
the reef's got some of these purebreds covered... a recent post from his forum:
We are working on the selection of santa marta colombian gold , Panama red , mexican sativa , Highland and low land thai and a whole bunch of other new old school lines that will blow a hole in your row boat ! heheehh
Reef
thanks for the info guys. i absolutely loves reef's work, but i've heard some of his landrace lines, like panama red, are from modern panama red he collected. i would love to be wrong about this, but i know a lot of other current commercial releases of these strains are modern varieties from the regions in question and not true to the quality exports people were smoking in the 70s.
We didn't keep track of the strains we were smoking then like we do now. All the pot was seeded and mis-handled and packed. But you do tend to remember good batches and I remember 2 great batches of Acapulco Gold that was the color of straw and had a sandlewood taste you don't see anymore.
The batch of Panama Red I remember I bought an ounce and had to drive clear across town to meet someone I barely knew. Then the ounce was just a bud off a whole branch and it require a gallon zip lock bag for it to fit the long banch in from corner to corner. It was amazing smoke.
We don't know what those old strains would turn out like without the males and the seeds. They say Panama Red is always seeded so maybe it's prone to hermie? I don't know.
