Never been to Tampa.. I've had a few friends move there and get pretty bad into the coke/crack scene.
I like the vibe in Durango much more than gj... I got a tweaker vibe in gj.
My two cents.

Durango, I feel like a large percentage of the premium I'd be paying is going towards access to shit I don't enjoy: skiing/boarding. And the winters are harsher.

500k worth of house in GJ is about 800k in Durango money.

GJ felt a bit "methy around the edges," but outside of that was a hard-man/throwback vibe. I actually enjoyed a lot of people I met in GJ.

But the beauty of Durango is just unparalleled.

Tampa, 500 grand gets you a 3 bed 2 bath place with a fenced in yard, on the deep water, with a pool. No state income tax to boot.

How is this even a question? Why bother moving to florida? I've been to Durango once for a quick overnight trip but I've been around the southwest corner of Colorado and it's all beautiful. There are plenty of other towns that might be a better compromise for you though. Have you ever looked into towns like Leadville, Buena Vista & Salida? They might be better suited to what you're looking for. But if you don't like outdoor stuff why bother living in Colorado? You could always move to Michigan or some other legal/medical state with cheaper housing.

Going for a backyard swim on Christmas, then going out on your boat (also in the backyard) is not something I trivialize breh. West Coast of Florida is absurdly cheap, flood insurance notwithstanding.

I love outdoor stuff I just don't like skiing and boarding. I find Co weather to be highly underrated. The winters are cold but not nearly as cold as the midwest in my opinion. Spring/summer/fall are also much more beautiful. No humidity most of the time, rarely rains.
The hunting, the weed, the scenery are also to my liking. That's why I am bothering w/ Colorado.

I lived in Michigan for years. It gets, what, 40 gods-honest great weather days per year? Maybe 50 if you're generous?

Yeah that stuff would be nice, the boating and swimming. Personally I get over it pretty quickly though, especially with the hot temps, HUMIDITY, and bugs. I love the dry air, not as many bugs, and the mountains. The mountains are a part of me, I get all weird and anxious after not being around them after a week or two. It all boils down to personal preference and what you're after. "We're all the Captain of our own asshole."

The right answer for you will present itself.

Thanks bud.

I'm leaning heavily durango. It's a small town and a few people there don't like me. It's mutual. So that sucks.

Winter sucks. But everything else is perfect. Close to Vegas. Fairly close to LA/SD. Close to hunting. Great spot.

Leadville is at 10,000 ft & has brutal winters. Buena Vista isn't much different. That's pretty much true of all the mountain towns. You''ll freeze your nuts off in Alamosa, too, even though the mountains aren't very close. It's a lot milder at lower elevations on the western slope, grading to near desert down south, same along the front range.
