grand daddy purps s1 attempt

got my 5 grand daddy purple seeds four days ago, all of them went into the freezer for 24 hours and into the paper towel it went! one seed popped within 24 hours of being put in the bag, the other four....not so much. theyve been in the bag over three days and show no signs of life yet. i really hope my one surviving seed makes it, as im confident in the quality of the plants csg releases, but im even more hopeful my other 4 seeds do something, cuz 80 bucks for one seed and 4 duds is alot, feminized or not.

stay tuned to see if i need to rename this gdp s1 fail lol. hope not.

any water will crystalize damaging cells in the seed making it dead if it fully freezes. Its been rackin my brain all day lol.....i see no logic in it.

IMO there is no need to store seeds in the freezer. You dont need to get the seeds that cold it will cause more germ issues by doing it that way..

I think its safe to say freezing for 24 hours is not going to in rease germination rates. would love to see the one that made it....any pix?

I've had seeds in my fridge for 3 years and just soaked and planted six of them two days ago and so far four have popped. I think fridgeration is the way to go as far as storing.

Freezer schmeezer, next time just germinate in moist soil. No soaking, no freezing, no fuss... Hope you'll have some purple goodness from that seed, I'm here for the show. Good luck !

if its good enough for the seed vaults in iceland i figueed itd be good enough for my babies, ive done it every time ive sprouted seeds and its never been an issue. like amannamedtruth pointed out it simulates winter. going from cold and dry to warm and wet activates the enzymes that cause germination, other wise seeds would drop in the fall and germ in a few days and die during the winter. at least thats what my crackpot biology teacher taught me.....and its not like my freezer goes lower than 30 degrees, i dont think any cryogenic ice crystals in the blood scenario should happen from that. in lighter news the survivor lives. should push up and open the little leaves in a few days, baby pics on the way!

Here is what id do at this point. Take 1 of the seeds and stick it in a glass of water. If it floats let it in there until it sinks and then put back in new paper towel, it will germinate now. If it sinks then i would saytheres a chance they had to much moisture in them and expanded in freezer ruining them. Now if it sinks I would take tweezers and open the shell and see if the embryo is still whitish and alive looking. If it is put it in paper towel. Good luck!

my seedling is not growing at all. i dont understand whats wrong with it, it popped its head above the soil and just stopped. the baby leaves in the center of the preleaves have not grown at all. the tap root is about an inch long and the preleaves appear to be drying out and shrinking instead of growing. the stem has no stretched at all, its about 1mm above the soil and thats it. id heard this was a slow vegger but oh my god ive never seen a seed that didnt grow like this but didnt die. soils not dry and really not over moist, temps are fine, wtf?!

Maybe too much light too fast or heat related. I recently started 6 seeds and three popped right away. I kicked the lighting on, three 26w cfls and the temps went up a lot even with a fan( I need to move the setup to a different part of the house). I noticed the other three weren't up so I checked it out and all had split and started throwing a shoot. After 3 days they never came up so I checked it out today and one of them was mushy and the others no progress. So I think it was to much heat for the unopened seedlings. The three that did pop are looking good. Next seeds I pop I'm gonna scuff, soak for 24hrs and then keep them in a dome till they pop fully with only natural light. As they pop one by one I will move them to my light source.
