Yep. Was at a trim scene and the owner told everyone to turn off their gps on their phones. A few months later one of the trimmers sent me a pic he took, and the idiot didnt turn off his gps tagging zoomed all the way to the owners house. but thankfully the owner moved. Considering the idiot trimmer probly posted that pic on Facebook it's even more scary. I have a burner phone that I'll take pics with and blue tooth to my iPhone for that exact reason. So scary I'm writing this from my phone in the bathroom cause it scares the shit out of me lol jk or am I?

EXIF data.

Get a utility to strip this info before posting any images online. Not just camera phones, but newer digital cameras also contain this info in regards to coordinates of where the picture was taken.

Last I checked Icmag does not strip this info unless your upload was a large enough imagine to be re-sized on icmag's end. Smaller images do not get stripped automatically.

Mods.. correct me if I am wrong or this has changed..

stay safe all

Sneaky.. how does a burner phone protect you from EXIF data storing the location of the photo? It doesnt matter that the phone doing the upload was not the phone taking the picture. It's the data contained within the imagine that reveals the original location of the photo. If your burner is storing EXIF data on the image you are still at risk. What does being in the bathroom have to do with anything? lol

I know maj cottonmouth posted something a few months back about the auto stripping exif feature not working anymore. I always strip mine in paint, then run them thru another program to double check.

:tiphat:

If y'all are just finding out about exif & geo tagging den u crazy mon

Can someone please tell us how we are supposed to remove the EXIF from our phones? I go to my settings on my smartphone and I don't see any options for removing that. Thanks!

How To Turn It Off

If you are an iPhone User

To turn off the GPS tags save in your images do the following:
GoTo General
Select Location Services

Then to disable GPS select OFF setting next to the Camera

Now exit settings.

This should turn off your GPS location data but you should take a picture and examine the photograp’s information in a image editor that can read EXIF data.

One application for windows that is free is Irfanview but you will also need to go to their website and download the extra plugins to read the EXIF Data.

Good Luck and be safe

Mine is a tad different. Settings > Location Services > switch Camera setting to OFF.

Visit here for more.

Even if uploading from a computer one should get a utility to strip EXIF data.. many cameras store GPS coordinates as well.. not just phone.

there has gotta be a way to manipulate this data wouldn't it be nice to show a good location like the kremlin moscow or the white house or maybe the local federal building that would make some noisy folks wounder WTF

ye but what do you do once the pic is in paint?

i think you just save it and it is saved without the info or something.. like an altered file saved within paint wont contain the other info that the file had before, thats what i seem to remember but in all honesty i dont really know,, or care maybe..

You can also take a screen capture of the photo--create an image of the image. It will contain zero GPS data.
