Have you ever had the chance to see the rock collection at the Smithsonian's Museum of Natural History in Washington?

I'll blow your mind!

PS.. the ones you have there are very nice too...

PPS....The National Museum in Prague, Czech Republic, has a very large meteorite collection..It's pretty cool too...

I haven't been in years. Deff a good reason to go back and my wife has never seen it.

I've got a bunch of them from all over and a couple meteorites too. There are usually a few shows around where they can be found. I think the mother of all rock shows is going on in Tuscon right now.

Here's a Dioptase. from Republic of Congo

Many moons ago I would venture into the outback in Madagascar to find Polychrome Tourmaline - or Pumpkin Tourmaline - as its better known - then bring it back to Hatton Garden in London - where I would sell it to a jewel shop for a tidy profit - at least enough to fund the next venture -

There were many rare precious and semi-precious stones there - since the geology of the place is so unique and different - and I regret not saving some for myself -

Tourmaline is high value in the right market. Easy to see the color, clarity.... Not a bad way to cover a trip with a little shopping along the way. Morocco has allot of variety.

Yes - at the time - they were retailing the Pumpkin Tourmaline (tri-coloured) for around £75 per Carat cut and polished -

There were many emeralds and sapphires there too - but on my first trip I was given 6 large stones - by some Bara herdsmen in exchange for a case of 3 horses beer - must have weighed 4 kilos in all - and I was a bit worried that I might get pulled by customs entering the UK with the Pumpkin Tourmaline - but was never stopped -

The UK is one of the toughest. They opened my suitcase every time.
