got a Q about my pump

G

gdawg

hey yall i got a submerged pump sittin in a 32gall rubbermaid trash barrel. when the barrel is full some water is siphoning out of my drippers. is it just i need a new pump(3 years old 20$) or is there something else i need to do? i run to waste and my tables sit pretty low. thanks ahead of time

Is your res above your table?? If so, then you now have a gravity feed system.

Normally, you only pump water UPhill.

YMMV.

A trash barrel is taller than many people's hydro setups. So even if the trash barrel is also sitting on the floor, when it is closer to full, it's water level could easily be above the drippers, causing gravity feed as G33k Speak mentioned.

G33 and Chag are dead on as water seeks it`s own level.......I use inline pumps where solution only travels one way with thru-the-hull bulkhead type fittings at the bottom of rubbermaid square brute containers so there`s no problems with rez levels........Submersible pumps will siphon back through to equalize the pressure until the level in your rez drops below dripper level on your tables.........It`s not your pump G ......Take care.....DHF...... :joint: .......

You can add a dripper or two at the high point of your tubing coming out of your reservoir to break the siphon, or just put a 1/4in barb in and a little bit of tubbing to direct the flow down, you'll give up a little pressure which may or may not be a problem. Adding a 12$ sprinkler valve from ace hardware works well too, that's how I run mine. Put the valve and pump on a power strip and hook that up to your timer.
