Got a few questions.

Hey everyone. The time is coming near, and in a few weeks I'll be ordering my seeds and starting to get everything set up. That said, I still have a few big questions that need to get answered.

1. Is the C-13 out of production? If so, what's the newer model about the same size? (what are the dimensions?)

2. I'm thinking of putting a 400W HPS in the cab, cool tubed, carbon scrubber, and with some sort of inline fan as an exhaust. What brand/type of inline fan do I need? I need it to be quiet, preferably cheap. Any links to websites would be awesome.

3. What soil and nutrients should I use? I don't want anything too expensive, and I want to keep it simple.

4. How loud is all of this going to be when it's all put together? I'm hoping to keep everything inside of the cab.

I think that's it. If anything else comes to mind I'll ask.

Thanks.

1. I believe that people are still getting that size at Walmart. I did my first grow in one and mine was a little larger at about 4 ft by 2 ft

2. Many people here have links to making carbon scrubbers. You can google inline fans.

3. If you want to keep it simple, mix 75 percent of any organic soil with 25 percent perlite. Add 2 tablespoons of powdered dolomite lime per gallon of soil.

4. If you are hoping that people can be in the room and not hear the fan, that isnt going to happen. How quiet does the fan have to be?

Whats up skunster.

I would use a C 24 if your gonna put everything in the cab.

I have used the fox farm organic nutrients/soil w/ 40 % perlite and it was great
But..I helped one of my friends w/ a cab grow(very similar to what you want) that was stealth. He used Pure Blend Pro as his nutrients w/ the fox farm soil and I was very impresssed with his as well.

I can sit and go on and on about the differnt nutes and such the bottom line is that pick something and stick w/ it.

Here is a great site for nutrients and equiptment.

a slight hum isn't bad, but i don't want it to be that noticeable. i could probably insulate it somewhat if it's too loud. how powerful of a fan will i need to cool a 400W hps with a cooltube? this summer the temperature in my area will be around 65-70 degrees average.

if i decide to go with pure blend pro, or fox farm, how do i know which nutes to get for flowering and veg?

thanks

All you need is a 265 cfm fan I believe, possibly less. I use a 300 cfm bathroom exhaust fan in a C-25 cabinet (the C-25 replaced the C-13 I believe, however, it is smaller) cooling a 400 watt HPS. Temps have never been a problem for me. The plants can get within 10 inches of the bulb without burning. Oh and I don't use a glass enclosed reflector, just a maximizer refflector with a 7 inch duct tubing cut through the top. I've got some pics of it around here somewhere if you'd like to see them.

If you go with FoxFarm, get the Grow Big for vegging and Tiger Bloom for flowering. Ferts are comprised of n-p-k. You want a fert higher in nitrogen ,then phosphorous and potash for vegging. The growbig I use is 6-2-3. The Tiger bloom is 2-6-4.

As for the fan noise, if smell wasnt a problem you could probably get away with a 70 cfm bathroom fan. Thats about as quiet as you can get....

I built my own cab & wanted it completely stealth. Wound up putting a 4 in. Vortex (171 cfm) up in the attic along with the filter. Then ran dryer ducting through the ceiling. One of the several reasons for this was because of the noise. Cab's in a closet & you can be in the room & not really notice it except there's still some sound from the rush of air into the ventilation system. Had a Dayton 265 & thought it was louder. I've read about Panasonic making some nice quiet fans but have never personally seen one.
A good fan probably won't be very cheap.
