sorry i'm about to post links to my post from another board, I was waiting for my account to get activated on here, here is a link to one of my questions, this board I believe has more visitors (i'm new here), so am hoping I can get more and quicker suggestions. I would just repost here, but there are pictures in that thread. You can reply here, or on that board doesn't matter.

abcd,

I think you should lower the light closer to the plants if possible....Use the OF the next time you transplant....I wouldn't add potting mix everytime they grow an inch.....LC

this is what he said on yahooka---

1st one died from not enough water, using peat pots, now water twice a day, should the pot be refilled with soil around stem everytime it grows? I've done that 2 times now. I'm just using some regular Perry Morse Germination Soil, after this I want to switch to Fox Farms Ocean Forest, but I'm not sure when I should.

I read I shouldn't turn on HID's until it gets a few feet tall?

right now it has a 30W CFL hanging, will it be ok to turn on another 30W CFL? (2000 Lumens) last time I did that with last plant it died within hours, but I was watering stricktly every 3 days, instead now I water twice a day since with these pots they dry out so quickly.

any advice suggestions would be appreciated

and about the mylar, it's being worked on, going to remove it and just paint

id say you got a healthy seedling- it wont need any more light then the 30w cfl for a week ro so, but if your condtions are right, another 30w cfl wont hurt- i agree not to put the HID lighting on the plant at first, wait till its in week 3 or so of vegg or even wait until flower to do that (my opinion, i know it varies from person to person)-

id say let that seedling get a little taller and then fill the rest of that pot with soil to the top. when the little gal is in thye first week, no need to keep the light right on em, but in week 2 or so (pending on how fast it grows) you are gonna want that light real close to the plant to prevent stretching.

hope that helps

is it a fire hazard if the plant touches the bulb? or will the plant just droop?

the leaf that touches the bulb will burn- maybe not into an inferno of flame, but it will fry- anyway- dont let plant touch light, lol

My advice is keep the the light from 2.5 to 3 inches away, for CFL's that is (45 W & under) gives a lil room for daily growth.... and worst come to worst a 45 W & under CFL would kill the seedling and it would fall over, no fires, but you never know, Murphy's Law is a bitch,!!!!

Flouros are the best way to veg, IMO and they're pretty forgiving. If a leaf or growth shoot touches the bulb for any length of time, it will dry out and die at the point of contact. That won't kill the plant, but it's not a good thing to have happen. Like PassionForMaryJ says, you never know what the cruel hand of fate will deal you if you get sloppy in your grow.
