Gore's son arrested for possession

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (AP) - Al Gore's son was pulled over for speeding on a California freeway early Wednesday and arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of marijuana and prescription drugs, authorities said.

Al Gore III, 24, was driving a blue Toyota Prius about 160 kilometres an hour on the San Diego Freeway when he was pulled over by sheriff's deputies who said they smelled marijuana, said Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino.

The deputies searched the car and found less than an ounce (28 grams) of marijuana along with Xanax, Valium, Vicodin and Adderall, which is used for attention deficit disorder, Amormino said.

"He does not have a prescription for any of those drugs," Amormino said.

Gore was being held in the men's central jail in Santa Ana on $20,000 bail.

Kalee Kreider, a spokeswoman for his parents, did not immediately return phone messages to The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Too bad unauthorized prescription drugs were included, if it was just a minor pot arrest it might have pushed Gore to be more compassionate than before (he could minimize the pot but the pills are a political hot potato right now).

However, if his (and/or other rich/powerful people's kids) have to serve time (or even just experience a major legal pain in the ass), maybe the laws will finally change. Those folks have the purse strings and can make legalization happen.

As much as I've been following politics lately, I had never heard of this guy or remember him being up on stage w/mom+dad under Clinton. He coulda remained in fat cat obscurity but had to blow it just when Dad's political capitol was reaching a crescendo. What a crying shame.
