Gopher Management -The Best Gopher Trap-

I have seen many people talking about there problems with gophers lately. I use cinch traps to kill them and I have no problem in my garden growing right in the ground. Now I seldom get a gopher wandering into my garden. Catching a gopher is an easy task. There is no reason to let gophers run free threw your garden or even near it for that matter unless you a vegetarian and don't believe in killing animals in general. When you see a gopher mound dig it up a put a cinch trap there. I have used all the traps and while they all work this one called a "cinch trap" works the best. They make different size and I recommend getting a couple big ones and a couple small ones for the babies. There are a few things to know about the behavior of gophers that will aid you in catching the rascals. First of all they are territorial, very territorial. So all of those gopher holes you see in one area are from the same gopher or two. Secondly they hate having openings to there burrows, I mean can't stand it at all. The light makes them feel vulnerable and any time you open up there cave they will try to fill it in within the day, usually within hours. If they don't than they aren't using that tunnel any more and they have blocked that tunnel off somewhere else from the rest of there "run". Thirdly when gophers move dirt they push it with there front legs and chin while propelling themselves forward by kicking vigorously with there hind legs, making a big lump of dirt in front of them that goes where they go first. The cinch trap works by opening up there run to the outside world and sticking the trap in. When the gopher pushes dirt into the trigger, and they will, the trap closes around them. I like to look for fresh "exit mounds" because I know that gopher is still active in that run and will come to fill in the opening soon. Another good spot to set a trap in is where the gopher has taken a plant recently in your garden. Hopefully something expendable like a corn or sunflower plant.

Good Luck :tiphat:

Thanks for the share. Good to know some more information on the enemy. I thankfully don't have an issues at my garden. But know some friends that will be trying this out.
