Good ventilation?

10x10x8 room, 6" Carbonaire filter --->Vortex--->4 ft flex alum air duct---->into attic---->out vent at peak of roof

I have 2 questions and I think I 'm all set:

1) What is a damper and do I need one?

2) Do i need a input hole as big as my 6" output vent to take in air from the adjoining room?

A damper is a suppressor of some sort. It can be used to reduce vibration or noise or, in this case, probably a one way flap to prevent air leaks. Air goes one way forcing the damper open. Air going backwards forces the damper closed. Think of it as a spare tire or bandage. Accidents happen

Simplest method of venting is 3 equal sized holes. One for powered exhaust, two for passive intake. This will provide negative pressure preventing the need for dampers.
