good ph meter?

i cant seem to find (or dont knwo what im looking for) a good ph meter that isnt too exp.

im using a soil grow if that helps...any sugestions would be appreciated

i live in europe so its kinda more expencive here...but look at ebay i...you might wanne look for a 'ph/ec' meter...i just orderd me 1..it gives you no hassle ordering a ec meter after and you also gonne need that if you wanne get in toutch with your plants
ph range 0 -14
ec range should at least be 0-3999 coz you have ec meters that run only till 1999 ppm and they are not sufficient
it all depends on how mutch are you willing to spend...

i use millwaukees, ph and tds...i think for the most part theyre pretty good, although i also think its the cheapest (price and quality) of the three. I bought mine at a local shop and paid like $70 bucks each. Its been alright, i spend the $3 bucks on calibration fluid once a month and make sure its right...only cause im paranoid about that kinda stuff. I dropped mine in the resevoir and it went a little haywire, erroneous readings and whatnot, but i took it apart and let it dry. Other than the batteries dying after 3 months and the crappy o-rings its been alright.

I recently got an up and close look at the oaktons. Everything from the tip to the molding of the casing was higher quality. The fit and finish including the o-rings were far superior to my millwaukees. Not sure of the price but i know its gonna be more than mine. And ive heard a few people say Oaktons were crap.

I was almost tempted in the combo unit, Hanna has a really nice PH/tds/temp pen... but i was a little concerned about placing all my eggs in one basket. I think if you lose a tip, you lose it all. Something to think about, keep it easy ~caddy

Smart move combo pens have given me more headaches..Unless you're Jose Hugetime the Milwaukee Sharp PH51 or TDS T-75 are like the basic decent pens that work well if not mistrested.

Hello all,

Skeletor, can you use these pens to pH thick heavy teas that have debris?

I use pH test strips that are dual range (two color) to dial in the pH to 0.25 of a point.

Costs me with shipping about 21bux and I get 240 test strips. No calibration, clean up.

So, if a quality pen will replace what I am using without any hassle- I would be inclined to give it a shot. Else, I would stay with what is working.

The only downside is that damn strips always seem to end up on the floor somehow.

Try online aquarium supply .com's They offer reasonable meters. However TDS/EC meters they offer usually stop at 1000ppm's . May I suggest,

This is soil gentlemen. Get your soil mix right and add 2 tbls of Dolomite lime per gallon and throw that ph meter in the trash. If your soil has the lime your ph will be at 7.0, adjust your water to around 6.0 and you are in the perfect range and you saved yourself some cash. Throw it in the trash!
