Well Rusty, read the label on the "router speed controller", it clearly states:

"Don't use on brushless type motors, will not work on soft/slow (capacitor) start routers".

The term "will not work" means it will not function as intended when used contrary to its design.

How many plants and how big is your grow area? 4" ducting and fans are worthless except for the smallest of grows, same with the filter.

ya didnt get the control yet. thanks for saving me the trip. so you cant really call me a dumbass yet. yes they have bigger fans on the site. i got what i needed. just trying to be helpful. damn :puppydoge these vortex were best deal i saw and no tax.

6 plants walk in closet size. 400 watt hps. with port ac.
so i dont need a monster just a lil movement. i got the temps where i need em.

do you think since its a small fan i can run the fugger full blast no prob?
i know i know spend the damn $30 on the damn c.a.p. blower speed control.

Rusty, thanks for getting back with room/light size info. Your heat issues are insignificant with the 400W. The downside, as for me, was switching from 400's many years ago, and had I known that I would be a caregiver many years later, I would have gone to at least 6" inline. Sure looks like you have a handle on it.

I gave all of the equipment to a compassion center and laid out major bucks on the upgrades.

rusty,
I think that harbourfreight router speed control would work. People have been using them for years to slow down centrifugal fans. Some report it makes the fan hum, others have no problems. I'm still waiting for mine, which seems lost in USPS limbo...

I just got them to try out. At $13 each - why not? Maybe I'll get a router someday. I already have a couple of regular $30 speed controls and they work fine. It'll be interesting to compare. I'll let you know how these turn out.

IMO, you wont need a speed control on a 4" vortex for a closet. especially if your pulling thru a carbon scrubber. they make very little noise running wide open and you will need all your cfm's due to the scrubber drag on air flow.

I am running 2 x 6" vortex's on my 5.5' x 6.5' x 8' closet. the one that cools the lights only runs when the lights are on.

the other runs 24/7 to move fresh air thru the grow. no carbon scrubber on either as both are vented (piped thru the attic roof) outside 47' above ground level.

regards,
JT
