going outdoors late? opinions

Normally we do one giant crop for the whole season to last, but now in the position we're in we are moving the clones we have inside.

http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=7684

for more background.

what is the general consensus of starting plants indoors during winter when its too cold to get started outdoors and the light is too short to veg properly and then moving them outside to flower for the same amount of days they normally would just outside.

they'd be in a special flowering box measuring 2.5'Dx6'Lx3.5'W with a roll over element proof tarp that will roll over the plants to protect them from extreme wind/cold at night

think moving outside to flower is worth it?

indoor we do not have the light setup to support a fullscale indoor flowering setup yet so the whole point is get these ladies to a point that we can take some cuttings and save them in the fridge until we can go indoors the right way

60 days outdoors with average of 10/14 light setup should be good no?

no,
you have to take into account that during the winter months light intensity is greatly diminished because of the angle at which the suns rays are hitting the northern hemisphere. couple that with the fact that you will only be getting 10 hours per day of light. also, the sun is at its most intense between the hours of 10am and 2pm during the winter. outside those hours the lighting, even from the sun, would be negligable relative to the plants needs.

of course, this all depends on where you are, but generally speaking, here in the us it's not really worth it imho

keep us posted and good luck

Not trying too be disagreeable Beans but many frost free area growers, keep right on growing through the winter, and some just north of the frost line just take a month or two break.... :friends:

this is a great time of year for us FL Growers,,, set them clones out for a happy new years :)
Beans did say it depends on where u are, though
and remember ur yields will never be huge unless u let em veg for a long time indoors because they will start into flower as soon as you set them out when the days are so short....

true enough justsaygrow,
but like i said, for the most part, meaning that in the majority of regions in the us this is going to be an excersise in futility that , though it may yield some bud, the bud will be of a much lower quality due to insufficient lighting and the inabilty to truely control temperature fluctuations.

another factor that must be considered is that the winter months tend to bring more overcast days in many regions which will compound the issue of insufficient lighting.

but we both agree that it all depends on location. i just feel that in the majority of regions here in the US its not worth the trouble.

but thats just my opinion. what i consider worthwhile and what someone else considers worthwhile not suprisingly is going to differ quite a bit. as long as we can agree to disagree it's really a moot point. i'm sure there will be replies to this thread that will favor my point of view and there will be those that favor yours.
niether is wrong, merely the opinion of the individuals expressing them.

peace

What we need is more information, like what latitude and the overall winter climate in the area, during the months in question, like is you're winter the rainy season or the dry season.

i live in los angeles.

so that pretty much says it

very little if any rain sono worries about mold

if anything its really windy but plants will be protected from it.

i think it should be alright.

Id say get some clones ready and stagger putting them out as a test, put a few out after youre normal last frost date, then put out a few more a couple weeks later, see what works? Keep in mind if u put out 6" clones in feb u wont get much bud, so u might wanna let em get a little size on em as well...In SoCal u should be fine, ur day lengths and winter temps are almost identical too many people who get 3 or 4 very worthwhile grows a year. I can vouch for this personally :yummy:

I live in west vancouver, bc...and i have a little forest by me....is it too cold to be growing outdoors this time of the year?

hell, you're in la?
you are in usda hardiness zone 10 which means on average your winter lows shouldnt fall below 40 degrees with any degree of frequency. not that it wont happen, but from a long term perspective its uncommon.

BC I seriously doubt its possible outside this time of yr in you're area, unless u had a really nice heated/climate controlled greenhouse with supplemental lighting and etc.,etc.,
