I'm currently not working although I'm hired, I injured my back and I'm off for a coupple of weeks. Anyways I had it with my gay job which I've worked at for close to 2 years which requires a lot of continous heavy lifting and stocking shelves which is really boring.

the pay is however not bad I get 10 bucks an hour (not bad for a student). Also it's pretty impossible to get fired, I take long breaks come late and they never know. Not that I do this on a regular basis. Also it isn't that far from where I live so it is convenient to bus to if I don't have my car.

Yesterday I applied to a big retail store and they are giving me an interview today for the audio video department (stereos tvs, gps, mp3 etc), I have a fairly good knowledge about electronics I think. Also I think it is non commission sales.

I'm not sure if I'll like sales but at least I won't be doing heavy lifting and my back will feel better. Also it is farther from where i live and will pay less and I'll be the "new guy" on probation which will suck ass. At my job they can get pissed off at me but they'll never fire me unless i steal or something.

Anyways I'm not sure what to where for this interview. I just have a suit (white long sleeve shirt , black pants / shoes) that I want to where without a tie and I'm not sure if I shoudl put the suit coat on as well or if that will be too much.

Also they told me to bring two references so i'm giving one from my old job at Quiznos which I quit and also form my current job I'm putting only one of the managers down that is a nice guy as some of them hate me... (because they are an ass). I'm not sure if they'll actually phone.

oh and if I get hired here you get discounts off all the electronics which is nice.

I"m also not sure if i should get a haircut, my hair is kind of getting long and wavy and when i style it I start to look like ace ventura but I think I should be okay, I don't feel like getting a haircut right now. I'll just shave and put on my suit and try and get there early.

While i usually dont like Yummy threads this is a good one and i want to help. Sales is a very good place. There are 2 kinds of jobs in this world. You either sell or you serve those who sell. The sellers make the most money.

As far as what to wear? An old line may help you out " you gotta dress for the job you want , not the job you got" what it means is if you are a fry guy at Mcdonalds then you should aspire to be more and part of that is to look the part. Put on a suit and a tie and get a hair cut. There is no such thing as over dressing . the 5 p's > Proper presentation prevents poor performance. I would try to dress better than the manager or the person giving the interview. Nothing worse than wearing a suit and looking like the guy who never wears a suit so look the part.

an interview is a sale. You are selling yourself to the company. They have to beleive that if hired you will help the company. In sales jobs its all about #'s wheter commisioned or not. The job is to move shit off the shelf. So let them know you can do that.

Bullshi them if you have to. i can give you some stories i have that you can use to get a job in sales that people love to hear. I own my own business so i havent had an iterview in years but when i did i was the best. I would only apply for 1 job, get the interview and get hired on the spot. every time. I can sell almost anyhing to anyone and thats the attitude you need to have. Best of luck to you

sure give me the stories. I have sell electronics so they will probably ask me about my knowledge on electronics etc and why i want this job etc.

I'm thinking of saying that I'm really into "gadgets" and electronics and I always keep up to date with new technology blah blah .

sometimes I will sound fake or nervous and that's bad.

yeah I'm going to take a shower now and go for a trim.

so they tie is on? I thought a tie would be too much, it's not like I'm applying for a managers position.

A tie is never too much. With a suit you should wear a tie unless you are in Miami and sell coke. Those aare the only ones you see with a suit and no tie.

selling electronics you dotn need to know that much. its selling you need to know. If you know how to sell you can sell anything from Tv's to dildo's.

as far as stories , people like ot hear that you have a drive ot sell. My father worked at CORE ( Congress of racial equality) and came home from NYC wit a box full of buttons . they were red, black and green ( african colors) and i thought they looked cool. So i took the box to school, found two of the most popular attractive girls and paid them to wear the pins. That day i ended up selling every pin for 50 cents each and went home with over $200 and i was 11 years old. Thats a story people in sales love to hear. I also used to buy super balls for .25 cents and go to a country town where they werent sold. I would go outside and bounce the ball and make it look like i was having fun. A kid would see mema nd want the ball and i would sell it to him for .50 cents , so i doubled my money with those. Just show you have a drive ot sell and have always been a seller. since you have no experiance in sales those stories will work as lame as they sound managers will eat it up.

Another part of sales, espicially with electronics is being able to transfer someones wants to their needs. Example, a guy goes to the store to replace his 32 inch tv that just blew. He wants a tv same size and doesnt want to spend alot. Sure he needs a new TV to replae the oold one but he wants the big 60 inch TV to impress his friends. so your job is to show him that the Big Tv that he dont want is not only something he wants but soemthing he needs. Show him how to finance with 0% interest and no money down. it makes his want seem more affordable and he will wantot invite his buddies oer for the game so with enough talk instad of a 32 inch. he will buy the 60 inch if you amek him feel good about it.

Wear the tie. I would also get a haircut if I was you. It's just hair, it will grow back. However, it's always better to look well presented and clean shaven for a job that you will be dealing with the public alot....

Another good peice of advice, if asked a question, keep talking. Elaberate on what you want to say. It's always better to say abit to much than way to little. Just make sure that you don't go on and on. If you have to think for 10 seconds before answering, do it. It's better than answering Yes/No....

haha, yeah I just looked at my Tony Montana poster and he is wearing a suit without a tie.

I got the haircut put on the tie and suit (I hate wearing suits by the way) and I had to go through 2 40 minute interviews ( I was there for 2 hours) and got hired.

the catch is they are hiring a lot of people because it is christmas time and the will only keep half the people after January (in 2 months), he said they will only keep the best and he said he can't guarantee anything but he said that if he said that if I fit in well and do a good job he will do his best to keep me.

looks like a pretty good job. He hasn't giving me a position yet but it's either installing / selling car audio or selling cameras/ mp3/ cell phones.

NOw the problem is I don't know if i should quit my current job. I'm going to try and talk with my current job and ask if I can only work 1 shift a week or 8 hours a week...... they might fire me though or tell me no that I have to quit.

if this new job lets me go after 2 months then I'll be broke with no job and no more money to insure and drive my car oh well it's a risk.

sales is pretty high pressure he said that I'll start off with no commission but will go to commissioned sales.

the thing is I'm pretty much an introvert and I'll have to try hard to do a good job.

the main manager gave me a pen during the interview and said that he was a customer that want's a pencil and I have to sell him the pen and I screwed up the first time and he gave me another chance.

frist time I was like " sir we don't have this pencil but I have this great pen you can buy"

he says " nope I only want a pencil" so I was like okay sir we don't have a pencil.

second time I had to ask him why he wants a pencil and I recommended he get a pen instead because it's more professional to write with a pen.

Welcome to the world of crappy jobs. This is a good reason to continue your school aspirations. Don't expect this job to last after Christmas. Prepare yourself for job hunting again. Good luck Yummy!

My job while going to school is security officer....or security guard or whatever.

9-12 bucks an hour and it is great for studying and video games..(free wi-fi).

Half the time I sleep through entire shifts^^

Plus I dont do anything at all physical related and get a little exercise.

Thinking about going into massage therapy and that typically does not pay much better but I could see myself doing it.

Security jobs are a lazy students best friend at least if you are poor hehe.

yeah this is such a hard decision. If my current job doesn't accept the one shift a week and my new job lets me go after christmas I'll start school broke / no car in January.

If I stay with my current job I'm basicly guaranteed work there.

I don't think that guy speaks english as his first language.

I've been thinking of starting a small business by next year it'll require a lot of time though.
