Going Afrighani - Deep Congo, SOL Mix and Mountain Bike

Yay for Seedbay weekend specials! Got me some Richard Williams Seed Co. Deep Congo, a true F1 hybrid of Ace's Congolese sativa mom and Tom Hill's Deep Chunk Afghani. I planted 4 sprouted seeds on 06/16. Sorry in advance for the photo quality, I used my lady's iPhone.

I'm using a blend of 3 parts Foxfarm Ocean Forest, 1 part Down To Earth potting soil (loaded with with all sorts of Trichoderma and Mycorrhizae) and 1 part perlite, with 2tbs dolomite powder per gallon. I've been using DWC buckets lately, but the plants get so huge, and I've already got several large plants in my flowering room, as I grow perpetual. These will be flowered in 2 gallon pots. The keeper mom will get into DWC before too long.

They've all got a heavy Afghani influence in the leaf shape. One of them has leaf blades that are almost circular! Then one of them has this curly frilly thing going on:

At the same time I planted a couple of seeds from the Adventurously Mixed SOL pack I got off Seedbay. Not the greatest looking seeds. I chose the 3 lousiest looking ones first. 3 for 3 germinated, but one was a mutant and didn't make it. Could be SwtTooth #3 or #4, could be Blockhead. I'm fine with either. :joint:

I also planted this single bagseed given to me last year by some guy on a crazy military-grade psycho mountain bike. Just some dude who a friend of mine knew, and we were all smoking together. He said "man, I scored an awesome bag and I found a seed". I said "can I have it?". He said "sure, man" and handed it right over. He didn't know what it was, but he repeatedly said it was "the fire". It was the biggest seed in my collection, almost spherical and dark, dark grey. I'm calling it Mountain Bike.

I'll be getting a real camera sometime soon to post some decent pictures. This should be fun!

Yep, indoors in a converted walk-in closet under a single 600W HPS. I plan on adding a 400W Halide when the weather cools off. I've got a 6" Vortex pulling through an 8x24 carbon filter and exhausting into the bedroom with a 100CFM axial fan on the intake. Perfect for my needs! Been working great for almost a year.

Hi pon.. pulling up a chair for this one ... just hope u update more than me :joint:

my half danish/english deep congo thread : http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=84098

I'm doing seeds on deep congo, can't wait for f2 testing...

Richard suggest finding sativa pheno in f2, and work from there, he's doing backcross to congo mother... well i don't have any congo, but i have some of Sam The Skunkman's Original Thai Haze, which i might pair a sativa f2 with.

Right on guys, thanks for stopping in.

Slowmo - It should be interesting to see how it will combine with the Thunk. I've got a single Thunk going right now, 2 weeks under 12/12 and no sign of sex yet. If she's a she, she's getting dusted.Yeah, I plan on making F2's of the Deep Congo for sure. I'll bet there's just a party waiting to happen in there.

I picked up a mess of clones in Oakland/SF over the weekend and I'll probably pollinate them each with any Deep Congo males I might find (and with Steely, my big bad Grindhouse Blue Sonja male). I grabbed some Bubblegum, Trainwreck, DJ Short Blueberry, Ed Rosenthal Superbud, original UK Cheese, OG Kush, SR71 Purple Kush (just for fun) and Super Jack (apparently a kickass SSH/JH hybrid, I was told).

I kind of want it to combine well with Cheese so i can call the resulting hybrid Dongo Cheese or something stupid like that... I'll bet it'll combine killer, Cheese is a Sk#1 pheno.

Nice thread dude. Good luck with your breeding projects--you certainly have some killer breeding stock.

best of luck

VT - Thanks. Yep, I agree, killer stock. For all its inherent fucked-upness, I love California. I don't take safe access for granted for one second. I plan to share the genetic wealth by donating some seeds to my local patient center and sending some to the Bay for freebies.

BTW, the Thunk is a girl. So there'll be some Deep Thongo, too.

(Original T*Haze x Sk1 f1)x(Congolese x Deep Chunk Afghani f1)... is that nomenclature correct?

OMG this is one productive lady... :muahaha:

My patience got the better of me today..

harvested main bud from quickest plant (not topped) .. dried 2½ hours in oven,
and went to work

132 seeds ... the rest of plant will make atleast 75 more, and this is just one of six females...

Smoking the remains from bud.... green lemonie musky euphoric high.. new favorit :rasta:

Slowmo - right on mang, nice little haul there.

Richard - Hey, thanks for looking in. I hope to do ya proud...

As far as an update, I wasn't able to upload any photos. The photos I took sucked anyway. But they're coming along nicely. I transplanted them into 5.5 inch square pots last week and they really took off.

All four are the same rich, deep green, a slightly different shade than their neighbors. They're almost identical to one another in stature, with similarly shaped leaves and structure, with the exception of #3, which is noticeably smaller. Not quite a runt, just a little smaller overall, same structure otherwise. The leaves are very Indica looking, not as footbally as the early leaves but with heavy, wide blades. They're up to the 8th node now, about 7" tall (#3 is about 5.5" high).

The uniformity doesn't necessarily extend to the aromas. All similar, but four reasonably distinct smells so far, with varying degrees of strength and pungency. #1 is a bit on the sour side, #2 is slightly skunky, #4 has a really mild but pleasant herbal note with a hint of fresh mint (not sweet, just minty), but #3 (the runtish one) is disgusting - it smells like Roundup. Just like all reports I've read thus far, not a hint of sweetness anywhere in there.

My Spice of Life seedlings are probably Blockhead, as they both smell very, very similar to my Blue Sonja male, one of them almost identically so. They're both reasonably similar, with nice spear-shaped leaf blades and a compact structure.

The Mountain Bike does indeed appear to be the "fire". It has a complex and VERY strong berry/lemon/skunk/ass aroma. The most odorous of the bunch. Kind of a classic leaf shape, with fine vein structure. Nice plant. I ran out of 5.5" square pots, so this one went into its final home, a 2 gallon pot.

I'll post photos when I can.

UPDATE: All 7 have been pinched at the 7th node as of last night. Mountain Bike is taking its first 12 hour nap, and the rest are going into 2 gallon pots this afternoon.

UPDATE

UPDATE

Deep Congo #1: male
Deep Congo #2: male
Deep Congo #4: male
Mountain Bike: male
SOL Mix #1: male
SOL Mix #2: male

Deep Congo #3 is still in veg, that's the frilly-leaved runt. Hope he's a she!

:muahaha: 6 out of 7... Just my luck! I've got more than enough clones to grow out, not going to hurt my supply any. But I was really looking forward to this grow. I've got 6 more, there's a keeper in there I'm sure.

I'll do my best to save pollen from the 3 dudes in the freezer in time to sprout some more of these.

Sausage Party!

Sausage Party!

7 seeds:
6 males, 1 hermi (Mountain Bike threw some pistils, too)

Sorry about the lack of photos throughout, I had no camera until yesterday. And they've all been cut down, so...

I used some pollen from the earlier maturing Blockhead male to pollinate a branch each on my Thunk, Super Jack and Ed Rosenthal Super Bud plants. All 3 are very lanky 11-12 week Sativa dominant plants (except the Thunk - some peoples' have still not fully finished after 160 days!), so hopefully that Blockhead will bring down the flowering time a bit and still give me a range of nice cerebral highs. And I saved copies of 3 of the 4 Deep Congo males so I'll have a nice stable of males from which to select for F2s when I sprout the remaining 6 seeds. :pimp3:

Thanks everyone for checking in, next thread will be more detailed, I promise.

Just for fun... Here's a bud I cut down last night. An unknown strain from a local med club - it was labeled Pot Of Gold, but this ain't no Pot Of Gold. When fresh, it smells like fresh strawberries, pineapples and baby shit. Cures out to a very complex fruit/funk with slight fuel and ginger notes. I cut this and another one down on day 68, and I plan to let the rest go until about day 77-80. She's got about 65-75% cloudy pistils right now, but I like the Sativas a little early anyway.
