Woah what? So I should actually start listening to what Al Gore says? By his logic marijuana is deadly (clinton administration was very hard on drugs), and thus I should quit smoking.

I don't know whether Global Warming is real, or a hoax. However I'm not going to take advice from someone who doesn't heed it themselves. It's like a potential suicide victim telling you to live your life to the fullest, figgin' ironic.

Politicians arent pushing this, they are just starting to get the implications and are scrambling to make themselves relevant. the problem is they are full of hot air.
lots of talk and squat for action. till they start living 'greener', they are just slimey hypo's making up rules for everyone while they dont even follow the same path.

6-7 billion people is a pretty damn big factor.
Are their actually people who think there are not consequences for unleashing all this foul crap from industry and poorly designed cars and other carbon fuel systems?
what happens with a running car in an inclosed space and mammal life? multiply that by the hundreds of million cars and trucks.... try travelling through the gotthard tunnel on the way to italy through the swiss alps, check out the dying trees along the freeway, or look at the brown air of LA.

In the chart used on the website, it shows that there was only a major sudden decrease of carbon in the atmosphere during the "Carboniferous" to "Permian" period. But during other ice ages, how is carbon still comind down? What is acting as the carbon sink? And why would carbon amounts in the atmosphere steadily be going down all throughout history, as shown in the graphic?

I like to look at the Ordovician 440 million years ago when the CO2 levels were TEN TIMES higher than they are today. But the Earth was in a very glacial state, a very strong ice age.

So, wouldn't this carbon have settled? Doesn't the ocean act as a natural carbon sink?

Now, rise in temperature that's happened at the end of the 20th Century has been fairly modest. So, if one wants to ascribe that all to the atmosphere's increased carbon dioxide content and other greenhouse gases, then you can say, 'Well, it's been a fairly modest rise and over decades we've had time to react to this.'

This is true, but we havent.

If so, we're in an ice age now (in an inter-glacial period) of the current Ice Age. We are in the warm inter-glacial and we shall return to the terrible glacial period, a very harsh glacial period. When? No one knows. Maybe a few thousand years.

Could the carbon dioxide put in the air forestall that? Maybe. But we're only talking about forestalling it for a few decades because we are committed to addressing carbon dioxide emissions. I believe, I'm a futurist optimist * and I believe in 100 years or 50 years, we won't be using fossil fuel anyway. So, they will drop down out of the atmosphere naturally. So, the most you're going to stave off an ice age is 100 years, so it's not very relevant.

This is the same author who a few pages back wrote that we went through a 100,000 year ice age with 12x more carbon in the atmosphere....
How are we staving off anything with the CO2 in the atmosphere?

But beyond that, the scientist also mentions:

COULD [the sun heating up] EXPLAIN GLOBAL WARMING IN AND OF ITSELF?

How does that look against the temperature records? It matches up pretty well with the beginning of the 20th Century. But it does not match up so well now. The surface temperature (of Earth) seems to have risen a little more dramatically than the Sun has in recent decades.

So, in terms of a straightforward link between the two, an association between the Sun and Earth, it looks like the Sun has not been the cause of most of the late 20th Century warming. It could have made a contribution.

I'm not a scientist.

There are several areas of environmental concern for me however.
-Solar Temperatue Elevation: this is new to me, I need to do some more reading (also see below)
-Global warming: there is literally thousands of times more concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere now than at any other time in certainly human, and possibly mammalian history (the research is out there, I'm not going into MLA here, haha)
-Global Dimming: thanks to all the particulate matter kicked into the atmosphere by industry and cars there's now a blanket of carbon surrounding the earth (some spots worse than others). This has the effect of mitigating the global warming by blocking a % of the suns rays. Environmental reform as currently incarnated (kyoto by and large) focuses much more on reducing the carbon over reducing other green house gases. The reduction in carbon, coupled with the continued rise in greenhouse gases will serve to accelerate the overall warming effect. (NOVA: Global Dimming from american PBS is a great show with corresponding Isreali and American light measuring from canal constrcution back in the 50's)

When I was a kid I remember something about when a star is dying it, ironically, looses light output but concurently heats up...not sure if that's at all applicable here. The other fun-uplifting-positive-outlook fact is that magnetic poles are weakening and reversing polarity...We could simply have our environment ripped from our planet's surface by solar winds, HOORAY!

after seeing al gore in this documentary, i am not so sure about global warming anymore hehehe... my real thoughts on the issue are pretty wild, i think that our state of being, thoughts, actions etc... determine the weather we get. the sun and us are connected too.

This is old news they new about the alternative fuels 30 frikin years ago. I hate to say it but mother earth is gonna die one day. the movie is an eye opener. Hell look up shit on the rain forest and borneo Mankind will continue to ruin this place we wont see it but it will happen. Dude they been fuckin chopping down the amazon for a long ass time before bush was presi. Our eco system is dieing when the bugs and animals that are becoming extinct that is just the begining of humans becoming extinct.
