Glass Monster Piece. Broken Glass ? Heres my idea.

So my girlfriends pipe broke this weekend. She was upset, as it was not her fault, and that it was her very first pipe. She loved the color of it, and its shape and everything about it. Well my first bong broke as well, but about 6 months ago, and my double bubbler broke about 3 months after. I am always VERY careful with my glass, but as you all know, things happen.

My idea is to clean all the pieces, and find someone to make a piece out of all 3 of our broken pipes. This way, it would be a monument to our broken peices, but a functional device, and we could see the beautiful colors that our broken smoking devices had.

Has anyone tried this before?
Does anyone around do work in Souther California? I've been looking for glass blowers, but they are either busy/overpriced (300dollars to make a somewhat standard bub with custom colors).

What do you think of this idea?
Ill post a pic of what the pipe looked like for some content. =)

Well damnm, i only have this one, but you can see the color

My limited educated guess would be no. Three different pieces arent likely to be all of the same 'compatibility' to be worked with. To be lampworked together glass needs to be of the same compatibility or COE [coefficient of expansion]. When its not the different glass pieces warm and cool at different rates of time. This causes intense points of stress in the glass and make it highly prone to cracking and fracture.

The other part that probably wont work to your favor and thats the color. Color mixing and heating can change the color of a piece. Glass colors can change dramatically depending on the type of flame the worker uses.. oxidizing, neutral, or reducing and refer to the gas to oxy levels. Most of the time the avg glassworker needs some practice with the colors before they do finished work to double check the colors properties when working with each other.

Whats even worse is that colored glass is run in batches and like snowflakes no two batches ever turn out exactly the same.

There is a glassblower already here, i cant remember who it was but someone created a great thread on blowing glass and i'm sure he'd know what to do to fix it. Try to find who it was and you can PM him for details. You may even find he knows a guy who can help you for a decent price.

Yeah that would be awesome.

And for you guys still talking about "sucking" well....all i have to say is... you are still talkin about sucking. Oh, and that Lamprey was gnarly.
