Give up on stretched plants?

It's been a couple of weeks since I posted, still hard at work on my first grow. At the start I had the wrong lights and was informed that my babies were stretching. I was able to correct this problem with most early on with a new fixture, but still had to leave 2 under the old lights for a bit longer until I got another fixture finally. These two that strecthed are now about 4 weeks old and are 25 and 26 inches tall, taller than the rest by 6-8 inches. My question is, is it a waste of time to try to finish these? What are the drawbacks of having them strectched this much? These are quite healthy plants otherwise, and very good genetics. Any info will be much appreciated, I feel so bad that this had to happen to them :badday:

Thanks in advance,
Blue

I would cut it down to about 1' and then tie the grow tip down LST style, it will stall it a week or so but you'll have a multicola plant that may surprise you.

Hi BlueberryHaze
1st off it's never good to give up on any thing.I would cut them back to 12" or so and train them like Suby said.Later

Thanks so much for the advice guys, I really didn't want to give up on them, I just didn't want to waste precious space and time either. Good news indeed that they are salvageable, any advice on how exactly to do the cut? I am assuming at a node?

Thanks again,
Blue

I don't mind waiting longer to flower, I am trying to make the most out of my situation. So if it would be better to cut and go from there please let me know anyone. Lucikly my veg and flower areas are seperate, so when to flower is not an issue.

Also after I cut do I train right away or wait for it to recover a bit?

Just to keep in mind for the future.....I've read and practiced misting heavily { a few times a day...if lighting conditions permit} during stretch will keep the stretch down. Mist converts N into carbs.....this is what keeps me from buying carbo boost's. Works for what strains I have grown.

Yes I've noticed that low Relative Humidity often leads to stretchiness, I just don't see myself misting them under a 400W while it's on.
What wattage are you using?

JJ: oustanding point about the proximity of flowering, training is only effective if you use a proper amount of veg time.

just tie her down use the big_buddahs LST tutorial in my gallery, if ya tie her down pull the top untill ya feel resistance then back off just a tad. you can adjust little by little over a few day period untill desired height is achieved, do the same for all side branches for they will grow streight up and become like main stalks when the plant is LST'd :)

I think it's mostly just strain & light that controls the strech. I've got some sativas that are 3 times the height of the indicas after 3 weeks. The indicas seem really bushy while the sativas are basically a stick with some leaves.

Having the light to far away, or too low a wattage causes them to strech aswell. My only problem is heat, because i keep the light as close as possible to the plants (hard enough when you have a mix of sativas and indicas and only one light!), and my top leaves get burnt if I dont keep an eye on them....
