Its only the end of may and the "babies" are already approaching 4 feet tall. Some of them are obviously stretched, but not too bad. I definately want to tie them down so that they arnt like 12 foot monsters in the fall. So... whats the best way to tie them down?
I tie a string loosely around the stalk about a third of the way down the stalk from the top. I then look at which way the sun sets and I pull the string lightly in that direction. I then tie the string to a stake in the ground so it is out in fron of the plant a bit. This way the plant can grow towards it. Every few days you can pull it a bit more until you get the desired height.
I use panty hose as my tie ropes. Drop a rock into the toe for weight and tie the other end on the stalk. This does less damage to the plant. It is also easy to adjust it. The hose are also camoflage. And in the wind they have "springy" action.
Im interesting in tying too. Last year i tried it one plane n it grew twice as big as the others. Maybe that one plant would of been big regardless of LST.
LST, especially early in the year can lead to five times the amount of Colas you might normally have. All side branches and shoots become large Colas. I also like it because it gets the plants down low and out of sight if someone were to happen nearby.....
I see you left some room for the stem to grow. I would assume that even if they stem did grow to get bigger than the loop you coud simply untir then retie it or cut it off and re tie it.. correct?
