Getting into 1000watt mh /HPs

Curious about the true “flowering area” for HPs? Seen 5x5 and 4x4. I have 4 plants under each 1k and I just want to separate them to get them to get the best overall lighting on each without them getting in each others way lol. Thoughts?

i did 5x5 when i ran 1000's and ran 4 per light decent size they were. never tried in 4x4 tho seemed small of area for 1000 watter

Room itself is far larger. I just wanted to markup the floor at 4x4 and 5x5 and maybe see how the plants seem space wise as they grow. I assume at 5ft the edges prolly start falling off lightwise eh?

it was 5x10 hut with 2 1000's when i did it. never really got to see what the light could do outside those dimensions

Back in the eighties 1000 watt MH were supposed to cover a 10x10. :D

If it's a veg light which would likely be hung higher twenty five square feet is achievable with a 600 whereas the same lamp wouldn't be able to flower that same space very effectively.

It really depends on what size plants you're flowering.

The problem with the shrinking footprint is usually caused by striving for intensity.

As you drop the light lower you are simultaneously shrinking the square footage of the footprint.

If you have a strain that doesn't stretch like crazy and has a dense budset you may find you can pack those plants in under the light while if the strain stretches wildly you have to kick the footprint out some.

That lower intensity can be counteracted by rotation of plants to prevent dim spots over time though it's added effort.

I do about 9 at a time under a 1k in a 5x5, ideally veg happens outdoors or in my crappy clone space and plants get staked to spread them out/support them with a continuous rotation into a tent to flower.

Pretty damn happy to be getting up and rolling again. Wooo spring!

Yeah staking is going to be something I’m adding. Never really it did it much so I’ll be curious to see how I do lol

strain related m8 yes, some grow reasonable on the fringe which others would find to dull and grow fluffy, same gos for under canopy but the big plus is the controlled bigger area for easier venting....if its a serious idea id do the gavita adjustable, 30+ zips a run used correctly:tiphat:

Sativa-dom hybrids, I've been using a 1K in a 4x4 for over 10 years. 36" from canopy with a wide reflector does a great job. :) I run 3 complete exchanges of air per minute, with full airflow through the canopy. :D

I have two 1k switchable ballasts for sale. I'm completely switching to LED for the next few years. Should I run across a super cold room/environment I also have to pay to heat, HPS is the first place I'd go for lighting choices. ;)
