Germing with Rapid Rooters, How much dirt do I cover the seed with?

Hi I have a question about putting sprouted seeds into Rapid Rooters after they sprouted. I have 10 seed that I sprouted via wet papertowel, some were alittle less than half an inch tail and some seeds has smaller tails. So I planted them in the Rapid Rooters by making the hole in the rapid rooters alittle deeper to make room for the tails on the seeds. I then ripped off a peice of the Rapid Rooter from the bottom side and placed it into the top of the Rapid Rooter top hole where I dropped the seed into.

My question is the seed able to push up trough the dirt I put over the seed? This is the first time I have germed seeds. They were soaked in water for 20 hours, then placed in wet paper towel for 2 days, They have been in the Rapid Rooters for 1 day now going on 2nd day now, and I don't know if they should have popped up out of the soil yet.

I have them over 4 26W CFLs, at constant 80 Degrees, With a heating Mat. How much should I water them? I don't want to kill them.

They are DJ Shorts True Blueberry.

Any help would be greatly apperciated :chin:

I use rapid rooters too.. and they will be able to push through.. I just make sure not to push the small chunk of rr to hard into the hole..

I wouldnt put the ripped off piece of RR on top of the hole. Seedlings are fragile and weak and something of that weight might inhibit growth. Heres how I germinate with Rapid Rooters.... Once the seed has germinated I place tail down in the RR hole. The I put the RR into a container that holds them up (black flats available at garden stores are great). I dont put into dirt until after the first leaves show. Its easier to diagnose a problem this way instead of rooting through the dirt to find the seedling or RR. Once youre this far then plant into your pot with just potting soil and lightly water.

You should not have to water the RRs with just the sprouting seed in it because it has no roots to take up any of the water. The only reason you would have to water the RR is if it is bone-dry. Otherwise leave it alone and just observe.

Good luck and nice strain selection. :D

I love the rooter but I have never covered the hole either. I use a baby dropper to keep them fed in the early stages and mist a little with the Liquid Karma but all will be well if ya control the heat.

oK I just took out the chunks of Rapid Rooters that I had pressed down into the holes on top of the seeds. I think I put to much on top and it would have been to hard for a seed to break through. Let me know if you think I shouldn't have done that by looking at the pics.

I also gently squeezed out alot of extra water that was in each Rapid Rooter because of my over watering. So they are now moist but not too wet.

Look at the pics and let me know what yall pros think.

Do you think I should stick some dirt in those holes? The Seeds to Exposed???

They look great and theres nothing more you need to do right now. You could put them into some dirt now but theres no hurry. Just wait a few more days and youll see some major developments in the seedlings. Then you can put them into some dirt and water them.

Ok thanks for the info and I hope I didn't damage any of the seeds. I will post pics in a few days to let everybody see what a few days can do. Its been 73 hours since they were dropped into a glass of water.

Hell I will probably do my first grow show. I got 5K worth of brand new equipment I am putting into a special room with 3 600's, will be running Co2 in a sealed room. I am very interested in what I will end up with and what I will encounter along the journey.

See ya later...
