Germination Problems?

I Used To Grow

Active member
I thought I had germed a Mexican Sativa seed, but upon closer inspection it hasnt cracked yet. It's been in a wet paper towel for a day now and it's hasn't cracked.

For some reason I have better luck when I just put the seed in soil and keep the soil wet.

Should I be worried yet with this seed, or should I give it some more time?

no, sometimes it takes longer. just keep it in a warmer area. i found it best to soak the seeds in lukewarm water until they sink first, then put them in the paper towels.

sometimes it takes a couple days......what worked for me was having your paper towel on a plate or inside a plastic bag and putting that under a heating pad/element
hope that helps

sorry IUTG...I should have put a wink...;) Sorry, but yes germination doesn't happen in a day. I have seen seeds take 7+ days, so no worries :) Let us know how they do...

Yeah, first thing I was gonna ask was "what are the ambient temps?"

Seeds can crack open in 24 hours, though usually you should give 48 to 72. Though I usually germ until the seed's cracked and the seed's casing's been shunned, showing those 2 little leaves. Then I go to soil...

when i germ them i used teh paper towel method in a plastic bag with a little bit of bleach then put them on a warm surface they usually crack in 36-48 hours.

I strongly suggest you find somthing warm to put them on, it really does help speed up the process... without the heat it can take up to to a week for the seeds to pop.

a good method

a good method

is to soak the seed in distilled water for 24 hours and then go to a paper towel for 24 hours...Fresh seeds will either be open or starting to open..You may have to wait up to a week with stubborn seeds.I just started 50 more seeds and only have 3 that have not popped using this method..
Take care..................CC

Try being very patient for at least 4-7 days. Then you shall see the green appear.
