germination method

I've got my hands on a few seeds from a friend and attempted to germinate them 2 days ago, nothing yet :\

I moistened a paper towel and placed the seeds in the middle...I put them in a tupperware container and left them under a light. Was the only place that seemed to have adequate warmth at the time.

I was just wondering how everyone else does it because I'll be recieving some BOG seeds soon :) and want to get the grow off to a good start. Thanks a lot

I do the same, but I place them in a warm dark place until the seeds break.

Once they break and come out about a 1/8 inch of the shell I plant them in your choice of medium.

What type of seeds do you have?

hi Bleak......

hi Bleak......

My germ method is i stick em in a cup of water with a drop or two of superthrive in a warm place for about 6-8 hours or until they sink :) then straight into seedling soil and under a 20watt cfl (for warmth) normally up in 24/48 hours :)
have had a 100% germ up till now (apart from some KC Brains beans but thats another story ;) )
hope it helps.

2 plates, paper towels, and put on top of my toasty cable box. 80-100% success. Guess the cable box is just the right temp..

Thanks for the quick responses guys. I have enough seeds right now to try out as many methods as I want so I do plan on trying a few different things...

I let the seeds soak in a cup of plain water over night, then i put them in a moist paper towel folded, inside a plastic bag. I then leave the bag some place warm and dark. Seems to work good for me.

I fold my seeds in a moist paper towel and slip them in a ziplock bag. Pretty much the same as you. Don't put them near light, dark is what you want.

If it were me, I would get that light off the seeds ASAP. Roots are not supposed to see light. I don't know how the seeds will sprout in paper towels under light. I don't know of anyone who has done that. I just don't see it being good for the seeds. I'd put them in soil if you want to keep them under a light. At least that way the seed is protected from the light.

Good luck,

I'm with the "Motor City Mad Man" Teddy

No light is good for roots and if you are just sprouting the beans that is all you have. That is the tap root and it should be protected from light and damage.

I go to light only after the seed has broken the surface of whatever media I am growing in.

I use a black washcloth, get it wet, not dripping of course, put it in a gallon freezer bag under my seedling floros for warmth. 24-36 hours. It has worked every time since I started almost a year ago.:)

Heres my HIGH TECH never fail germination method

Heres my HIGH TECH never fail germination method

Ok bear with me this is a very technical procedure

I first pick out the seeds that dont look like shit
and then i put them in a shot glass with warm water! :0

after a few hours i push them under the water and get them to sink to the bottom

I keep this magical germination machine on the hot part of my monitor

then i plant the seeds!

i usually just throw them right into the soil.... about a half inch deep..... water it a little .... wait a couple days and itll b pokin its head thru... i usualyl have a good germ percentage too..... i tried usin paper towels and that kinda stuff but i ended up killin the seeds durin transfer...... but it works betta for some people..... im real accident prone so i go for the least amount of tampering... just puttin them in the soil.... so i guess both ways work..... peace
