Germinating older seeds?

Hey yall

I have some ~2008 stock Ace Angolese x PCK seeds that I am having trouble popping. I believe they are fem. How they were stored previous to being put in my hands I am not sure, but they have been fridge stored since as with all my seeds.

My last run I did the seed scuff and attempted to germinate a few, with no results or success. I am about to start my second run and I have four seeds that currently sat in 24hrs of 100ppm GA3 and were planted in coco about 3 days ago with no sign of cracking so far.

I'm wondering if anyone has any insight to a better ppm figure I should be using, or how long I should wait for these to come up, medium temperatures, etc. Anything I can get to increase success here would be helpful. I have 5-8 seeds left of this cross and I would love to experience some of LMN's Angola.

thank you for your help and suggestions.

edit: and these were gifted to me as LMN would have wanted, not sold.

i've found high humidity but while maintaining at least a little airflow (open the lid like once a day) and temps between 75-90 work best. once you see them poke out of the ground take the dome off and keep moist/ not dry. i think the most important parts are temps and moisture level. i've had a seed pop up after 2 weeks recently. just found another one that never sprouted looks like it got too dry so i'm gonna bury it and try again.

Hmm I've just been "topping off" with a little moisture every day but covering them up would probably create a more stable environment, good thought.

When you purchase Seeds from seed banks they are usually of a older stock anyways. After seeds are harvested they have to be put into the freezer anyways. The last set of Ace seeds I purchased was 4 months ago. The Oldtimer Haze were dated 1/22/12, Green Haze were dated 09/12/2011 and the Bangi Haze were dated with only the year 2008. I drop my seeds directly into my coco and have had 52/52 all germinate, it's the only way I have achieved 100% germination rates. All 30 seeds from Ace germinated. You have to stay on top of misting your pot plant if not the seed will die without moisture.

I think if you plant directly into soil it is a bad idea to use a humidity dome unless you can't achieve atleast 50% humidity. As long as your tent is around 50-60% humidity they will germinate within a week if done right. They need to be misted daily with a spray bottle depending on the dryness of the medium. Everyday I mist the top of each pot 6-8 inches above the seed with 100 ml's of water, 2/3 RO water with 1/3 Tap. If you use straight RO water you will need to add Calmag.

Did you find the germination speed of the fresher seeds to be faster than the banghi haze at 2008? Funny enough I also have some 2008 banghi haze as well as the 2013 release.

Actually the Bangi Haze have been the fastest out of all the Ace seeds I've done. All the Bangi Haze popped within 3 days. All my Ace seeds popped within 4 days. A few other breeders took 5 days for them to pop out completely. No dates on their seeds. I think only packs of 10's come with the seed date but not certain.

I soak my seeds in 3 % H2O2 for a couple of hours. This softens the shell and sterilizes the seed. Works like a dream and is less risky than scuffing. I highly recommend it!

Good stuff everyone. I generally don't have trouble germinating seeds so I can say with confidence they won't pop with "regular" means.

I will try some new ones this weekend with the new info.

Hi 2000pm,

Hopefully, you are lucky to germinate a few to experience this nice hybrid.
I would recommend you to follow our germination tips at our website:
http://www.aceseeds.org/faqenglish.php

Keep the temps stable around 25ºC in the germination media, and open frequently the recipient (at least 3 times a day) to add fresh oxygen. Pre soaking and making a small and clean cut can improve the germination in old seeds.

If the Angolese x PCK finally didn't germinate, then i would recommend you to try our Congo fem hybrid, the outcome is quite similar (electric african sativa crossed with purple forest fruity PCK).

Hi dubi, this last batch just did not make it. I have a few more I will try again with the above in mind. Next time I'm going to dig out the seedling mat to keep temps constant and consistent.

I did start a couple of banghi haze which came up without issue, I'm hoping with that along with a couple of the Original Delicatessen seeds (Alice and Queen Mother) I will find a good congo expression between them.
