On Wednesday the Georgia House passed a modified version of House Bill 1 (Cannabis Extracts) sponsored by Rep. Allen Peake. The 158 to 2 vote sends the bill to the senate for consideration. Also in senate committee is a bill to allow in-state cultivation and whole plant medicine for a broad list of medical conditions. Senate Bill 7 is sponsored by Sen. Curt Thompson. Georgia C.A.R.E. support this legislation (SB-7).

What the bill does (HB-1)

1. The bill allows immunity from prosecution for possession of certain cannabis compounds for certain patients / caregivers.

2. The bill covers nine diagnoses: cancer, Lou Gehrig’s disease, seizure disorders, multiple sclerosis, Crohn’s disease, mitochondrial disease, fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s disease and sickle cell disease.

3. Allows possession of up to 20 fluid ounces of a cannabis-derived liquid that contains no more than 5 percent THC, the active ingredient that gives marijuana users a high. These patients would get a registration card that exempts them from prosecution in Georgia for possession of medical cannabis oil that has been legally obtained in another state and meets all requirements.

What the bill does not do (HB-1)

1. The bill does not allow for in-state cultivation or a legal source in Georgia.

2. Does not allow for whole plant medicine or more than 5% THC formulas.

3. Does not protect patients and supplier immunity for federal prosecution.

4. The bill also creates a summer study committee that would write up recommended rules for a system of Georgia growth, manufacture and distribution of medical cannabis. Its report could form the basis of another medical marijuana bill next year.

Rep. Allen Peak got to meet a child that has multiple seizures and has been after this bill ever since :tiphat:

I think one of Rep Peakes High school buddies , who runs the water dept down there in Macon spurred this bill.
His wife and daughter (Hailey,ie Haileys Hope aka HB1) have moved to Co for relief and treatments. Shameful , Darth Deal
