Genetics

So I'm relatively new to growing. When I started, I had a friend suggest I try out something cheap, like Nirvana. So, I purchased 10 feminized packs of AK48 and Bubbleicoius from them.

The yields were "so-so" and the bud was decent.

The more I've read since my first few grows, the more I've heard that Nirvana is regarded as "cheap" or low-grade genetics. Is this true?

If this is so, how would someone come to get a better understanding on what "good" genetics are? Or, if someone were to tell me to try and grow White Widow, or OG Kush... how would I go about finding the best genetics for the strain?

For instance, there are multiple breeders that do their version of AK47, White Widow, Northern Lights...

How am I supposed to know which ones are the best? Should I automatically go by the most expensive?

just like with everything else your gonna get what you pay for. always research what company/ breeder you are buying your genetics from. also read some grow reports. I have been working off of clones for a long time now, but if i was gonna buy some seeds I would get some cindy 99 f2's from GNV or Joey weed or something from rez.

"Best" is a subjective (sometimes subjunctive) term... one persons mead is another's poison. Quality is not always relative to price either... we've seen garbage from professional seed outlets,, and gems from home-growers... much depends on the way the wind is blowing.

Search around the forums a little,, check out the grow diaries and breeder sub-forums,, take a look at photos and feedback from independent growers on the variety you are interested in,, that's a great way to gage what is in flavour,, sorry favour with growers :D

N.B. DONT believe the HYPE! ... a "good-thing" sells itself :canabis:

the problem with nirvana's seeds is that there is little uniformity. you can end up with 3-4 different phenos in a single 10pack. and from what i seem to understand, they only have a few males to work with, so not a large over all gene pool. with that being said however, you should find a keeper in a 10pack, you just need to grow them out and look. some of there strains are better then others, so do a bit of research on the strains your interested in. I have grown out ice, blue mystic, and blackjack. the blue mystic for me didnt do well indoors, but did grow outdoors well. not all plants show color, but most have a nice soft berry smell to them. not the best yeilds and ok potency. the ice did very well indoors, but there was 3 phenos that i had. one was short and have a very tight flower formation. there was a lil bit of color change but not major. potency was excellent and yeilds were nice as well. the blackjack is newer and from what i see its one of there best as far as potency. grows well indoor and outdoor, and is really uniformed. i only saw 2 phenos and only difference was the overall size and node spacing. didnt see any color change, but still going through the pack. all flowers were very frosty and had a sweet grapefruit smell to them.
for the price you pay you cant really go wrong, but understand that you might end up with very different phenos in your packs
hope this helps
